Burn Victim Mr. Z is Not Out of the Woods Yet.

Mr. Z had a tough time this morning. When I and my other two pups got up for “morning snuggles” he stayed in his bed. I went over to him to give him a pet or two and he was shivering in pain (even though he was still on strong pain meds). I went to the fridge to get him his five daily meds. I put them in a piece of hot dog to ensure he has food on his stomach. He ate it somewhat unenthusiastically, but finally did struggle to stand up. The burns on his legs and underside seem to be healing somewhat, which means the once bleeding skin is drying and tightening up, which is leading to his increased discomfort. He did not enjoy his hydrotherapy this morning. He could hardly stand to have the water touch his back half, poor thing! He did, however, hobble out (sideways, on three legs) in the front yard while I watered the plants.

Last night a kind soul who heard about his plight gave me $20 to go towards his care. I know what I’m buying: tons of hot dogs and Preparation H (I know this sounds weird, but it helps with that infernal itching!)

Please keep Mr. Z in your thoughts and prayers.

I am so touched by this precious little guy’s situation I have sent a check to Austin Pets Alive specifically for his ongoing care. I will continue to follow his progress and support him every way I can. He is a real little fighter or he would not have survived this horrible, senseless attack. I hope others will be touched enough at the strength of his little spirit that they too will want to donate whatever they can to help with his recovery. Mary Stanley

I was sad to hear that this dog is in so much pain. I hope he pulls through. You guys are such wonderful caregivers.

I hope Mr. Z is much better this morning. I just keep thinking about him all day long. He’s the first thing I check on in the morning and the last thing at night.
