APA! cares for baby chihuahua with pneumonia

Carter is an adorable little 9 week old chihuahua puppy who got kennel cough and then developed pneumonia despite being on antibiotics. He has been in the hospital receiving treatments including 2 different injectable antibiotics, nebulization of saline and antibiotics to help clear the infection, and nutritional supplementation. Today he is going home with his foster mother to recover more. We have been very worried about him and are hoping that he will continue to improve. The doctors say it could be a couple of weeks before we know that he is out of the woods. … more

Another Happy Ending…

Dear Staff of Austin Pets Alive,

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedicating yourselves to such a great cause.  Here are some pictures of our puppy, Eva, that we adopted from your organization on September 15th.  Eva is now 14-weeks old and weighs almost 15 pounds!  She is loving life and we thank you for rescuing her, so that we could have her in our lives.  She is happy, healthy and so well-loved…a real success story!Thank you to all the staff, volunteers and foster parents.

Happy Halloween from Eva!

Update on Mr. Z, now named “Kidd”

Mr. Z’s foster sent this email today:
Well, Mr. Z is doing very well. He still has two areas – one small, on his side and a larger, deeper area under his hind leg. At this point it’s been decided that he’ll not undergo surgery – he’s already been through so much with the therapies and one surgery on his eye. In just the last few weeks, he’s begun to jump in the middle of the other dogs playing at Red Bud. He also loves to get into the water all the way up to … more

No More Homeless Pets Conference- APA! will be represented!

Best Friends is sponsoring a No More Homeless Pets Conference in Las Vegas this weekend.  FixAustin.org and Central Texas Animal Alliance have generously sponsored all of Ellen Jefferson’s trip to the conference and part of Gretchen Meyer’s trip.  http://network.bestfriends.org/conferences/news

We are both very excited about going and learning about other cities’ efforts and about the latest greatest ideas on how to become a No Kill City.

Austin Pets Alive! has made a big difference over the last few months in Town Lake Animal Center’s death rate.  In July, we decreased dog deaths by 25%!!!!  Even though these numbers are exciting, we have to … more

Phoenix – Post from New Home

Phoenix and Friend

Phoenix and Friend

Phoenix was officially adopted by his foster family.  They have cared for him since the beginning and have given him the meticulous care he needed as well as a TON of TLC.  He is doing remarkably well now and the veterinarians in charge of his care think that he has no problems left from his ordeal.  He is fully functional in every way.  In fact, he is even getting neutered next week!

As his new life actually does take on a shape of it’s … more

Livvy

livvy

Livvy when she was at Town Lake Animal Center

Recognize this dog? This is Livvy, who is the dog on our website. Livvy has had a life filled with lucky…and not so lucky…times. She is one of the first dogs that entered APA’s program back in May, when she wasn’t doing well at the city shelter. She’s a very active and smart dog, and like most active and smart dogs, her behavior deteriorated in the shelter environment. Livvy was very lucky … more
