Group Aims to Make Austin "No-Kill", Unhappy with City’s 50 Percent Euthanasia Rate
AUSTIN, November 29, 2008 – A local nonprofit working to make Austin a "no-kill" city says it has rescued nearly 700 animals from the City of Austin’s Town Lake Animal Center. Nearly all of the animals pulled had been slated for euthanasia by the city shelter. The group has placed them in permanent and foster homes.

Thank you to Clara Tuma of KVUE news, who did a story tonight on APA! and one of our current dogs, Hopper. TLAC contacted APA! a couple of weeks ago about a dog in their program who had a broken pelvis and needed a foster home where he could recuperate after surgery. Thank you also to TLAC for paying for the procedure for Hopper! Normally, APA! pays for the medical treatment for the pets in our program. Having enough funds to pay for medical expenses is one of our greatest limitations to saving more … more

Schatzi being still for half a second.
Schatzi is approximately eight weeks old and the poor little guy had a bad case of sarcoptic mange. This completely curable condition could have been treated before it got out of hand, but as it is poor Schatzi has spent the first part of his life itching and scratching himself until he bled. UPDATE: CHICO GOT ADOPTED- Woohoo, Way to go Chico. We will post some pics of his new family as soon as we get them. We will miss you but are so happy for you!

Misty, a female lab mix, is now being fostered through Austin Pets Alive! after her owner removed herself from a dangerous domestic violence situation last week. The owner, whose identity is confidential for obvious reasons, was worried for Misty’s life at the hands of her abusive and angry husband. When she sought help for herself, she was able to seek out help for Misty as well, thanks to Austin Pets Alive! and the partnership the organization has with other human nonprofit entities.
