Reminder: Last town hall meeting is tonight

Please come out to the final town hall meeting tonight to discuss the proposed cut to Emancipet.

We are making a difference by attending these town hall meetings. This is an interactive meeting. You will sit at a table with 10 other citizens. You are given a list of proposals to either accept or reject. We want to REJECT HS-1 which is the proposal to remove spay/neuter funding. You have the opportunity to influence the discussion at your table.

We did not attend the first town hall meeting and 15 tables voted to accept the proposal while 3 tables voted to … more

Our 1 year mark

One year ago, APA! officially became a TLAC partner and we began pulling pets off of their euthanasia list*.   Here we are one year later and are excited to share how far we’ve come – with your help.

We’ve pulled over 1,500 pets from TLAC’s euthanasia list.
We’ve lowered TLAC’s kill rate by over 20%. (or 28% starting from the beginning of this year)
We’ve pulled over 1,900 pets into our program.
We’ve adopted almost 1,500 pets to new homes.
We have 4 daily dog adoption sites and are in the process of opening 2 more (they’re actually already running on the weekends).
We have 1 … more

Happenings this weekend

Don’t forget that tonight is the happy hour with Social Thinker at the Tiniest Bar in Texas from 5-8.

And tomorrow,  as part of the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale, there will be a vegan bake sale at Monkey Wrench Books from 11-5, with 1/2 of the proceeds benefitting APA! (the other half is benefitting Austin Food Not Bombs).

Tomorrow’s orientation is canceled

Due to the heat, we are canceling our volunteer orientation tomorrow.  Our next orientation will be Saturday, July 11th at 11am.  Visit our Volunteer page to learn more about volunteering and submit an online application.

Last Town Hall meeting on Emancipet cuts

TO APA! VOLUNTEERS, FOSTERS, AND FRIENDS,

The City of Austin will hold its final Town Hall meeting regarding proposed budget cuts on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Givens Recreation Center.

One cut that Austin Pets Alive! is concerned with affects spay and neuter services provided by Emancipet in low income areas. If this funding is affected, it will result in an increase of unwanted puppies and kittens, increased intake at TLAC, and increased killing of dogs and cats at TLAC.

We want as many APA! volunteers, fosters and friends as possible to attend this final meeting. While the Town … more

Nia

nia1I was saved by two people with big hearts.

After seeing me get hit by a car, they ran to me in the road. Cars were passing me as I lay huddled up, alive and injured.

I was bleeding from my eyes and was having trouble breathing. The couple drove me to the nearest animal hospital 45 minutes away from where I was hit and saved my life.

I am just 12 pounds and after the accident, I could not stand up. Now I can walk and run around the yard with excitement. I … more

Being an APA Angel

I am an active volunteer with Austin Pets Alive! and my main role currently is to represent the animals on our website.  This consists of posting pictures and bios, some that I write and some that others write, onto our website (which recently got a fabulous makeover).  We are always looking for ways to get our dogs and cats adopted faster, as this means we can pull more off of the euthanasia … more

Happy hour with Social Thinker

APA! is thrilled to be this month’s charity for the new nonprofit group, Social Thinker.  Social Thinker’s mission is to engage the service industry to create new donations and volunteer opportunities for local and national charitable organizations.

Please join us for a happy hour at the Tiniest Bar in Texas, next Friday, June 26th from 5-8pm.  Thank you to the Tiniest Bar in Texas for donating a portion of sales on Friday to APA!.  They have sponsored APA! in the past for a volunteer party and are a real friend to Austin’s homeless pets.
