“We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet; and amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog has made an alliance with us” – Max Depree
Unfortunately for Chad, we humans have broken our alliance with him. Chad came to APA in December 2008 from Town Lake Animal Center. He was 6 years old at that time and had been abandoned in the overnight kennels by whatever previous owner had callously discarded him. We found Chad a caring home in January 2009 but his owners have had to move overseas to Singapore and could not take him with them. Watching his crying owners drop him off at APA was heartbreaking enough, but seeing Chad staring at the spot where his family’s car drove away, whining softly for them to return for 8 hours that day was worse. Once again, humans have let this great golden retriever mix down. If you can find room in your house for Chad we promise he will find room for you in his open, wounded heart.
Chad is currently in temporary foster. If you are interested in meeting him please email email hidden; JavaScript is required

I have had the pleasure of fostering Chad the last 3 days and would like to share the following:
Chad is a small retriever mix (20-24” high, 45 lbs.) about 8 years old. He is friendly and affectionate without always being underfoot, playful but well behaved. Chad walks well on and off a leash, was congenial to all dogs we met on two free-range dog trails. He is housetrained, loves car rides, liked Town Lake, and ignored the only cat we have met. Please call or write if you have any questions or would like to meet Chad.

PeeWee and I met Chad today at Kerbey Lane. He is a wonderful, sweet and calm dog.
I also met Chad on Saturday and he is the most loving, kind dog! He’s very calm and loves to be petted. He has the most beautiful coat, and is just plain sweet! I hope he gets his forever home (and I mean forever!) very soon! He deserves it!
