We’d like to introduce you to our latest inhabitants of the bottle baby trailer:
9/12 litter: 5 kittens
This litter came to the BBT *barely* 2 weeks old. The mother cat had been poisoned & died, and the babies taken to TLAC. Their eyes weren’t open & they had their umbilical cords attached. They required feedings every 2 hours. Without a momma cat, they quickly became stinky & were subjected to lots of baths to keep them as clean as possible. This litter helped introduce all of the sanitation protocol to the trailer. … more

Austin Pets Alive! is hosting a massive adoption event on Halloween. Come down to the PetCo in the Arboretum this Saturday, October 31st between 1 and 6pm to meet some amazing cats. We’re expecting between 25 and 30 cats and all kitties will have a reduced adoption fee. This is a great opportunity to get to know several cats and kittens at once and see if one (or more!) steal your heart. We’ll even have some yummy Halloween treats and if you feel like it, wear a costume!
Here are some kitties who are looking pretty festive for this holiday. If … more

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the Animal Services meeting last night. We’re happy to report that it was a huge success and was attended by almost 100 animal lovers, 3 news outlets, the Director of Health and Human Services, and aides to City Council Members. Fox already has their story up. (The quote from Dr. Jefferson is a little misleading on its own. She was speaking about the bottlenecks for getting animals ready for adoption at TLAC and said that there are too few resources now.)
Larry Schooler, the meeting facilitator, started … more

We need you. Austin is in the midst of change. APA! has been advocating for and doing the work of saving lives at the shelter that were destined to be killed. We have saved almost 2,000 animals over the last 12 months that would not have been alive without us all.
We have made various proposals to the City to increase our involvement at TLAC and have even asked to receive funding/space for the work we do. We want to help the city increase the number of pets who leave the shelter alive.
This Tuesday, the City … more

Monty just went for his 4 week check up and the vet says he is doing wonderfully. He now weighs 33 pounds. Remember he started out at 22. He does eat everything insight, including all house plants and roses.
We have been given the okay to increase his activity (which has been extremely hard to control). He has started to run and is using all his legs. He sometimes favors his left leg that still has the pins in it but they said that should change once the pins come out. He can now put … more

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for coming together to help Cookie! Since we’ve received so many generous donations we went ahead and sent Cookie’s tumor off for a histology test to tell us what kind of tumor it is. We should have results in a few days! We didn’t quite raise enough money to pay for the test (we’ll get billed for it in a few weeks) so we really could use some more donations to help us cover the costs of her continued medical needs – we only need $100 more!
[We have received enough donations to cover … more

Well, I did it!
Hi everyone! Some of you may remember me from my handsome photo and story a few months ago. My name is Zane and I’m a very special, one year old American Bulldog mix. What I just did was graduate from a six week foster/train program at Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior. Not only did I graduate with flying colors, I was top of my class and used as the role model dog during training lessons. It’s not surprising seeing as … more

Nina is a 6 year and 8 month old black/white domestic shorthair. She was pulled off the euth list feb 2009 and given a second chance at life. She is a great girl whom we never thought would end up as one of our very longest staying cats in our program. This is her story.
Not too long after we pulled her from TLAC’s euth list, she was adopted and we thought we had found her a forever home. Shortly after, though, she was returned because her new family was moving and Nina could not come along.
I was a … more
