Defining a mission statement for TLAC

Tonight is the first planning meeting between the AAC and TLAC to develop policies and programs to make Austin a no kill city.

They will be redefining the mission statements of TLAC.

If you are interested in this subject, please join in at 6:30 at the Austin Energy Building at 721 Barton Springs. The meeting is in the First Floor Assembly Room. There is parking in the garage behind the building.

Creating a no kill Austin

Tonight will be the first weekly planning meeting with the AAC and TLAC staff to develop policies and programs to make Austin a no kill city.

The AAC encourages all interested people/organizations to comment, make suggestions, or submit proposals on any of the AAC recommendations to make Austin a no kill city.  That can be done one of these three ways:

The first 10 persons to sign up to provide suggestions or comments will have 3 minutes.
The first 10 individuals/organizations to sign up to present a proposal will have 6 minutes.

Run like the wind

“RUN LIKE THE WIND” FOR CHARITY!

WHAT: Run Like The Wind – includes 5K “fun” walk or run, with or without dog, and distance runs from 3 hours to 24 hours, including relays
WHEN: Saturday, December 5, 2009. 5K start times: 7:30, 8:15 and 9:30am. Multi-Distance runs begin at 11 am
WHY: Benefits the Schrodi Memorial Training Fund, overseen by Animal Trustees of Austin. Monies raised helps owners who can’t afford the cost of training to be able to train and keep their dogs.

Tennis tournament

Tennis, Anyone_On December 13th, there will be a tennis tournament benefiting APA!

It’s going to be a great time! There will be raffle prizes, everyone will receive a t-shirt, snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day, and awards will be given to 1st place winners. This is a round robin event so you will get to play A LOT of tennis.

We need nebulizers to save more cats

Marie the kittenWhen little Marie was rescued from Town Lake Animal Shelter she was deathly ill with an upper respiratory infection. She wasn’t eating and had reached a “dangerously low weight”, according to APA’s vet techs. Her foster parent started nebulizing her once per day for 20 minutes and saw significant improvement. Soon she was recovered and eating on her own. Marie was adopted last week – a happy, healthy cat that could have easily died if not for nebulizing.

These kittens need fosters immediately

As you probably already know, Austin Pets Alive! saves animals daily from the euthanasia list from Town Lake Animal Center. Cats and dogs die daily because there is no room left in the shelter, an animal is sick , or an animal is thought to be unadoptable for one reason or another.

Super Cute KittiesTake these three adorable kittens for example. Siblings Duffy, Cliffy and Muffy are sweet, inquisitive and fluffy but they tested positive for FIV and have been deemed unadoptable.

Curly update

Curly_packHi guys, Curly here! I have been very busy since you last heard from me. I’ve been living with my foster family and learning how to behave like a good boy. I’ve calmed down a LOT and everyone has noticed! My foster family thinks it might have something to do with the training classes I’ve been going to at Lee Mannix. I’ve learned how to sit, lay, come, and wait (among other things).

Animal Advisory Commission meeting tomorrow (11/18) night!

The Animal Advisory Commission, who has been mandated by City Council to work with the city to develop programs and policies based on their recommendations, is having the first of several critical meetings on Wednesday, November 18 at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Austin Energy Building, 721 Barton Springs Road, First Floor Assembly Room.

Attendance of the public is very important as this meeting will set the stage for implementing the City Council’s recently passed resolution. More specifically, the AAC will be meeting to create the framework for how it will work … more
