Somewhere Out There Wilbur’s Home Awaits

Wilbur has won the hearts of so many, but his forever family still hasn’t found him yet. They are out there, looking for a big sweet goofy lug of a dog to take into their family – they just don’t know that Wilbur is the one yet. So in the meantime Wilbur is waiting.
Unfortunately, a foster or adoptive home hasn’t come forward for Wilbur yet. So as a last resort, Wilbur is staying at a boarding facility to give him a little more time for his “soul family” to find him. But every day he has to stay there the expenses are adding up for APA! The more we spend to keep him there, the more it takes away from our other expenses like the medical costs we are incurring treating our dogs affected in the distemper outbreak.
Wilbur is worth it – he has endured so much. He is a sweet, gentle, trusting dog who more than anything else in the world wants someone to look into his eyes and say “I love you, I won’t leave you, and I’ll take care of you.” For the person that opens up their heart and their lives to Wilbur, they will have one of the most devoted, faithful companions you could ever find in a dog.
But he needs your help to give him time to meet his family. Here’s how you can help Wilbur:
- Sponsor a day ($15) or week ($105) of boarding for Wilbur to give him a safe place to stay
- Spread the word to help us find a foster for him so that we can get him out
- Tell your network about Wilbur – any one of them may be his “soul family”
At the boarding facility, Wilbur loves the ladies and has lots of doggie girlfriends. He’s wonderful with people of all ages, nuzzling and wanting to be close to them wherever they are. See his video where he follows his previous foster mom everywhere.
Wilbur is waiting – but he needs your help. Can you help give him the time by sponsoring a day of boarding, helping us find a foster, or best yet, being the one to introduce him to the family he is meant for?

What does Wilbur think about cats?
He encountered one once – who hissed and surprised him. But we haven’t seen him really interact with any. We think it’s possible he could live with a cat, but there would need to be careful introduction and supervision at first.
Does he have to remain in the Austin Area? Have you thought about posting his story on Pinups for Pitbulls???:) It might help. :)
That’s a great idea! Thanks, Beth! We do allow non-Austinites to adopt from us, but require people to be in Austin to meet the pet and do the adoption here. Wilbur will be a tricky one for an out-of-town adoption because we would like to set up the adopter with training to help Wilbur through his separation anxiety.
OMG!!!! Wilbur is so awsome… i use to own a pit bull before i joined the Army , but i gave him to my mother to take care of while i went to basic. but when i got done she had gave him away.. and i have been looking for a new best friend…..I think William & Wilbur make a great team….How can i adopt him????
Hi William, send an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required and someone will help you through the process. Thank you for your interest in Wilbur! And sorry about losing your other dog.
Wilbur is currently living at Taurus, where I work. I have gotten to know him and have totally fallen for him. I have a friend that would be a perfect match for him. He has met him and loves him. I would be able to take him to work with me often and be able to help him work with wilbur with his seperation anxiety. He would like to take him home for a day or two to see how he does. Is this something you do? What is the next step to take?
Wow, that sounds great, Kelly! Send an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required to get more info.
I am very curious to know if Wilbur gets along with cats and if he will live comfortably in a large apartment.
Hi Tracey,
I don’t think we know how he is with cats. Yes, he could definitely live comfortably in an apartment, but many apartments are not going to accept a dog with his looks, since he could possibly be a pit bull mix. Please contact email hidden; JavaScript is required and they will get you all of the information.
Has Wilbur been adopted? Does he still need a foster?
Hi Sheilah,
Nope, he hasn’t been adopted yet and he is still looking for a foster.
