APA! Featured Volunteer – Frank

by Hilary Bentley • Posted in: Volunteering

Each month we are going to spotlight one of our fantastic APA volunteers. You all do so much for APA above and beyond the call of duty. Especially, your tireless efforts on our new building, helped us to save more pets than ever. This month’s APA Volunteer in the Spotlight is Frank Martinez.

Every time you walk into the building Frank is there to say hello. It doesn’t matter if you’re a regular at the building or a new volunteer or someone there to check out the cats, Frank will cheerfully direct you in the right direction. And somehow, the next minute, he’s in another room hard at work.

“When I lived in Florida, I was fostering for a Pit Bull Rescue, so when I moved to Austin and found out APA rescued dogs from the euthanasia list, I volunteered. It gives me pleasure to work with dogs that are considered unadoptable so that they can find a home. Besides, my dog Madison was badly injured and sick when she was rescued. After nursing her back to health, nobody wanted to adopt her. She is a wonderful companion and wants us to pass it forward.” - Frank Martinez

“Frank has been helping with APA’s new building almost every day since day one. He is one of those rare people who seems to like to work. When we ask him to do something, in moments it is done – without complaint, with a infectious positivity, and with a willingness that makes working with him a real pleasure. Able, affable, and capable, he is the model of the combination of nice guy and focused worker. With a smile, he goes systematically doing whatever task he is asked. He is like the phantom – he works so quietly, and sticks to task so effectively, that things get done way faster than anyone would expect. If the world was filled with Franks, not only would good deeds be everywhere, so would goodwill.” - Written by Michael Lubitz, a volunteer that works with him almost daily

APA and the lives of the pets on the euthanasia list at TLAC depend on our volunteers. Our organization would actually not exist without volunteers! From taking photos of cats and dogs to fostering and grant writing. There are so many ways to be involved.

When I first interviewed Frank to be a Dog foster Parent I knew we had a gem. Frank’s compassion, knowledge and experience have been invaluable to the Dog Foster program. Frank never says no, even when I call to ask for his help with one of our “special” dogs. Frank and Madison have not only helped save many dogs, they also work tirelessly to help them become better canine companions. Thanks Frank – for all you do!
