Austin Pets Alive! Expands with Opening of New Tarrytown Adoption and Retail Location
Non-profit organization continues to help Austin reach its no-kill goal
AUSTIN, Texas, March 31, 2011 – Austin Pets Alive!, a non-profit dedicated to saving the lives of companion animals, has announced plans to open a new adoption and retail store-front location in the Tarrytown Shopping Center. The location will save an estimated 200 cats per year, allowing the organization to have an even bigger impact on the save-rate at Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC) and surrounding area shelters.
“Town Lake Animal Center achieved a 92 percent save rate in the month of February,” said Dr. Ellen Jefferson, executive director and veterinarian at Austin Pets Alive! “We expect that a May opening of our new adoption location will immediately help alleviate the large influx of cats and kittens city and county shelters expect during the spring, and will help ensure that TLAC continues with it’s ‘no-kill’ success.”
A group of Casis Elementary School fifth graders recently raised $2,000 to sponsor a cat habitat in the new adoption center. Austin Pets Alive! is currently seeking additional sponsors and donations for the new location. A title sponsorship is available for $15,000, and three more cat habitat sponsors are needed for $2,000 each. They estimate building, maintenance, and staffing the location will cost $23,000 this year and hope to have the funds raised prior to the grand opening scheduled for Thursday May 19.
In addition to monetary donations and sponsorships Austin Pets Alive! is also seeking donations of the following items:
-iPad for credit card processing and general communication and data keeping.
-Purina One cat and kitten food
-Volunteers to help with construction
-Tidy Cat Scoop Multi-Cat Litter
-Cat toys, cardboard scratching posts, kitty grass and catnip
