Bottle Baby “F7″ Litter

Meet the F7 kittens (clockwise from left): Felicity, Fruitloop, and Furball. These kittens were found strays taken to – and rescued from – the shelter on August 20th. They have been hanging out at our Bottle Baby Trailer, but are in need of a foster home for some good R&R, socialization, and room to roam.

The two boys and one girl are a month old, great eaters of both canned kitten food & kibble, and use the litterbox diligently. They are a little scared and sometimes would rather hide than … more

Bottle Baby Progress report for July 2010

It’s with continued amazement that I share the statistics for the Bottle Baby Program for the month of July.

Since January, we have cared for 510 kittens in the Bottle Baby Trailer (BBT). Some have only passed through briefly on their way to foster, and some have stayed a bit longer to recover from illness while we find the perfect foster placement.

It’s a good guess at any of our adoption events that just over half of the kitties available got their start with Austin Pets Alive! as a Bottle … more

Sassy Sassafrass Needs You!

And you better believe this spunky little firecracker isn’t taking no for an answer!  Sassy is like that really hot chick at school with the goofy sense of humor and effortless confident glow.  She knows what she wants and she’s got a repetoire of adorable tricks up her sleeve to get it.

To put it as concisely as we can, Sassy is 100% pure awesomeness.  Her face is uniquely beautiful with an intangible silliness and almost constant expression of curiosity.  She looks like an animated cartoon princess.  She’s never … more

Kittens Need Foster Homes (with Videos)

The Bottle Baby trailer is FULL!! We are caring for a number of kittens and we need to find fosters for them so we can open up space to save more babies from the shelter.

First, we have our D6 Litter: Daffodil (seal point), Dewdrop (grey), Danny Zuko (grey) & Doug (brown tabby). These healthy kittens are estimated to be just over 2 weeks old and they are hearty eaters from the bottle every 3 hours and can go up to 6 hours overnight between feedings. We gave them … more

Arizona Goes Home

A little over a week ago, I loaded up the car with Arizona & her “suitcase” – with cans of her favorite food & toys - to go to her new home. She had been pre-adopted the week before to a young couple with a cat (another Tuxedo) & two dogs, and I knew it would be the perfect environment for her to shine as an individual, but also have plenty of playmates.

The days preceding her departure were bittersweet, but included lots of snuggling and cuddling. Naturally, she would … more

Kitten Season: 2nd Wave Hits!

The Austin Pets Alive! Bottle Baby team has experienced a rush of baby kittens in the last week ranging in ages from 10 days to 3 weeks. In fact, we’ve rescued 18 kittens requiring bottle feeding every 3 hours and our team of steadfast volunteers has jumped to the challenge!

Kitten season runs from March through September, with the largest volume of kittens being born in April. We had anticipated this 2nd wave, as female cats have weaned their first litters of the season & become pregnant again. It’s a … more

Foster or adopters needed today for kittens thrown out of car

Update 7/7/10:  Thanks to our awesome community – a few people came forward and offered to foster these cats!  Martin was adopted and Samuel is going into a new foster home.

Good samaritans on a late-night Walmart run spotted roadside movement and saved several kittens who were thrown out of a car. Some of the kittens didn’t make it, but three did. One was pulled by the Siamese Rescue group and the other two are at the shelter now, and are being cared for and treated — they … more

Reba – some good news!

I’m so happy to write this blog post – it’s full of drama, but with a happy ending.

First, to catch you up:
We found Reba at TLAC as a stray with a broken leg and hip, probably hit by a car. Even in terrible pain, she was the biggest love bug. No one came to get her and we didn’t have a foster for her, so we spread the word and someone new came forward to foster her.

Once we pulled her, we removed 2 gallons of urine from … more
