Construction at the new building is well underway, surgeries are already taking place in the new facility & cats/kittens have moved in for adoptions! Also under construction is the new Bottle Baby Room. This ONE ROOM has easily three times the space as our Trailer, which we have operated in over the last year. In that small trailer since January 1st, we have rescued an astounding 592 kittens – just imagine what we’ll be be able to accomplish in the building…(more … more

And you better believe this spunky little firecracker isn’t taking no for an answer! Sassy is like that really hot chick at school with the goofy sense of humor and effortless confident glow. She knows what she wants and she’s got a repetoire of adorable tricks up her sleeve to get it.
To put it as concisely as we can, Sassy is 100% pure awesomeness. Her face is uniquely beautiful with an intangible silliness and almost constant expression of curiosity. She looks like an animated cartoon princess. She’s never … more

The Austin Pets Alive! Bottle Baby team has experienced a rush of baby kittens in the last week ranging in ages from 10 days to 3 weeks. In fact, we’ve rescued 18 kittens requiring bottle feeding every 3 hours and our team of steadfast volunteers has jumped to the challenge!
Kitten season runs from March through September, with the largest volume of kittens being born in April. We had anticipated this 2nd wave, as female cats have weaned their first litters of the season & become pregnant again. It’s a … more

It’s with much sadness that I report our tiny tuxedo kitten with the funny moustache, Alabama, passed away in the early morning on Saturday, June 5th. She had nearly reached the one pound milestone and was less than a week away from her first vaccinations. She was very active, playful & seemingly healthy as recent as the Wednesday before. Then, she had a stuffy nose and stopped eating. Immediate treatment with antibiotics and nebulizing for the common kitty upper respiratory infection, and the stuffy nose cleared as … more

On Friday morning, May 21st, a beautiful dog named Buddy was killed at Town Lake Animal Center. A series of miscommunications both internally at TLAC and between TLAC and APA! resulted in a tragic death that could have been prevented by improved protocol and communication. Buddy was a favorite of APA! and TLAC volunteers alike and had been a regular at our trail site, as well as a specially requested attendee at our SoCo adoption site. Those of us who knew him are heartbroken and dismayed. … more

As first mentioned in a previous post, these kittens were rapidly deteriorating and reduced to skin and bones in their struggle to survive. We are glad to report that they are eating on their own, gaining weight, and playing with the other foster kittens. After several days of force feeding and receiving high-calorie food supplements, the kittens began to have more energy and an interest in food. They were still quite thin, but would tote around large, round bellies after mealtimes. They are still separated … more

When we pulled Sassy from TLAC, we noticed she had sore back legs, which we thought were sprains. We took her to Animal Trustees of Austin where they x-rayed her and discovered that she actually has bilateral luxating patellas and will need surgery on both hind leg knees.
She needs the surgery now as her legs have become even sorer while she’s been with us.
We need to raise $700 per knee and find a foster that can take care of her during recovery from surgery (approximately 8 … more
