Olympia is a gorgeous five year old mastiff mix who came to Austin Pets Alive! from the Austin Animal Center in late January. Olympia has a lame back leg so our veterinary team would like to have x-rays and possibly a bone test done to help determine what exactly is going on. Will you help our gentle giant?

Can you believe this gorgeous dog was surrendered at the shelter because “she wags her tail too much”? Meet Wags, the loving and friendly 7 year old labrador mix who recently joined the Austin Pets Alive program. After a short time in our care, we noticed there might have been another, more honest reason as to why she was surrendered – Wags had a slight limp and upon closer inspection we have learned she actually has an ACL tear.

Wags is now going to be scheduled for a surgery to repair her ACL so she can live pain free again and be the active lab we know she is. Will you help?

Atticus came to Austin Pets Alive from San Antonio Animal Care Services in early December and has been battling distemper while living in a loving foster home. As part of his treatment, the veterinary team decided that Atticus needs to go to White Angel to try the CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid) tap for his canine distemper. It is rather expensive, but it is his best chance at life. Will you help?

Selma and Patty Bouvier

APA! recently rescued two sister cats, Selma & Patty Bouvier, from San Antonio. Due to their wounds, our veterinary staff believes these cats were poisoned. They arrived in the medical clinic with facial burns on their noses and mouths. They will need monitoring to ensure they begin to eat, sub-Q fluids to help flush their systems, and frequent visits to the medical clinic as they recover. These ladies, despite their injuries, are still very sweet and we need your help to treat their wounds.

Pockie

Pockie was on the euthanasia list at Williamson County Regional Shelter due to a lack of space, so Austin Pets Alive! brought her into our program. It seems Pockie came from a family as she goes potty outside, behaves well on a leash, knows how to “sit”, and just loves to be loved on by everyone. Her lower activity level suggests that a breath of fresh air each day is all she needs to keep that calm, content demeanor. However, the dog team noticed Pockie has been coughing and upon closer examination by the veterinary team, it seems there is a little blood in her cough as well. We would like to get x-rays done so we can tell why Pockie may be sick – will you help her?

Frannie and Figaro

Meet two adorable, sweet cats that need your help! Frannie is a 6 month old kitten who got caught in a car’s fan belt and suffered wounds on her face and neck. Her injuries are more severe as they are deep.

Figaro, is a super loving adult cat rescued with trauma to his neck from unknown causes that has left a gash across the back of his neck 4 inches wide. He visits the medical clinic periodically to have his bandages changed, and charms everyone with his loud purrs and affection. He enjoys the few minutes he gets, bandage-free.

While these cats may have significant things going on, many are just thankful for having a chance and for being alive. Once healed, we are certain they will both finds home very quickly.

My name is Ramone. I’m a sweet, big-hearted cat who has fallen on a bit of bad luck. I was recently moved into Dazey’s Ward, where the lovely volunteers who are treating my ringworm noticed I have a limp in my hind legs and a lot of pain in my back. I’ve been such a trooper through it all, still trying to pull myself up onto laps for snuggles and braving car rides to the clinic. I’ve been put on some various medications to help ease my pain, but I’m told I need x-rays to find out what is hurting me. Will you please consider donating towards the cost of my x rays, and help me get back on my feet so I can continue my journey to my forever home?

This week, APA! rescued a 7 week old kitten, Amber, with sarcoptic mange, mostly common in dogs. This mange causes hair loss and sores and is caused by microscopic mites under the skin. It is treatable, but contagious, so this kitten must go into foster and be isolated from other pets to recover. Will you help us treat Amber so she can be get rid of these mites and be the beautiful kitty we know she is?
