Tucker – finally home

Remember Tucker, our world-class escape artist? He kept escaping from his adopters and our adoption counselors and running back to his buddy, Gary, who was not able to adopt him at the time. (And poor Tuck got blamed for all kinds of mischief in Gary’s neighborhood where he was first dumped and the neighbors did not want him anywhere near there again.)

Tucker was adopted and recently Gary got to visit him and his new adopter, Kevin. Here’s the note we received from Gary after … more

Arizona Goes Home

A little over a week ago, I loaded up the car with Arizona & her “suitcase” – with cans of her favorite food & toys - to go to her new home. She had been pre-adopted the week before to a young couple with a cat (another Tuxedo) & two dogs, and I knew it would be the perfect environment for her to shine as an individual, but also have plenty of playmates.

The days preceding her departure were bittersweet, but included lots of snuggling and cuddling. Naturally, she would … more

Lebowski update!

The big Lebowski (featured right in the photo above with his new brother, Squunz) was adopted recently.  (He did go to a foster-to-adopt home briefly a couple of months ago, but it didn’t work out because the cats in the new home really didn’t like him.  We’re told he’s a bit much for the poor cats.)  We received an update from his adopter that we’ve pasted below.  Thank you so much to his donors who made back surgery possible for him and to all of the volunteers … more

Happy last year for Duke

We’ve been heartbroken about this and hate to send out bad news as an announcement, but know that there are lots of people in our community who cared for Duke, who passed away due to congestive heart failure.

Duke was adopted by his foster mom and received all of his heartworm treatment and seemed to make a full recovery from all of his issues. He spent a lot of time with the foster’s parents, out in the country, as he seemed to be getting more and … more

Curly – from wild man to gentleman

Curly, who was one our longest staying dogs in our program, was adopted a few months ago. We received an email from his adopter and have to share it – stories like this are what we all live for. I think his story is particularly moving for us because we know how many dogs like Curly are dying at the shelter – high energy, untrained adolescents who don’t do well at adoption sites, but can make wonderful pets if given the chance (and training).
“It’s been almost 4 months since we adopted Curly, and we decided to give … more

Bottle Baby “A” Litter Update

As of April 8th, the Bottle Baby team has rescued a total of 27 litters from Town Lake. 89 kittens. EIGHTY NINE! It is indeed going to be a busy kitten season.

So, our last several Bottle Baby posts have talked about caring for the babies in our trailer on S. Congress, training new volunteer feeders, training new fosters, kittens acclimating in their foster homes, and the like. So then what? Well, here’s an update on our “A” litter – now available for  adoption and on display at the PetSmart Cattery on 51st Street.

This litter of 5 kittens came into the APA! Bottle … more

Baby Buttons gets adopted!

buttonsHi Everyone! Baby Buttons here for my last post. I’ve had a couple of milestones since I last wrote. First, I turned one-year old! My mom and dad had a birthday party for me and everything! Second, and most exciting, I got officially adopted!!! My foster mom and dad officially adopted me.

I spend my days chasing my feline brothers around, climbing up the cat tree, cuddling with my mom, chirping at the birds outside on the bird feeder, snuggling with my older canine brother, and just being a kitten. I … more

Ultimate Vindication

SugarA year ago, on March 1st, I adopted a sweet dog from APA! named Sugar (formerly “Lovey”). She was shy & timid & submissive, and had been on the euthanasia list at the shelter. Once accepted into the APA! adoption program, she spent most of her time at the adoption sites hiding under blankets. But for some reason, when she finally poked her head out, her blonde hair & freckles really stole my heart. When I took her out for a short “test walk” she didn’t do well on the leash. Still, I … more
