Yoki’s owner is in a tough financial situation, and unable to afford the $400 pet deposit charged by the landlord.  If Yoki’s loving owner cannot pay the deposit soon, Yoki will need to be surrendered to the shelter.

Pelona is a beautiful girl who is someone’s future hiking and running buddy, or maybe just a couch companion. She’s a sweet girl who has been a mother several times, and is tired of motherhood. She wants the stable forever home she’s never had.

To get her on that track to stability, Pelona needs heartworm treatment.  Can you help heal this very curable disease for Pelona, by funding her treatment?

• In your email, please include your full name, and the full name of those you are planning to attend with (if additional). We will send you a confirmation email to let you know your space is secured for this session
• Those under the age of 13 are not allowed in the nursery
• Teens 13-15 can come with a parent or guardian to help (a great opportunity to learn how to do paperwork, responsibility of general care, etc.) but cannot feed kittens
• Those ages 16-17 can come to training with a parent or guardian and can feed kittens
• Age 18+ can feed solo
• Court ordered community service hours are not available in this specific program
• Loving and responsible individuals are a must! This is a great opportunity to spend time helping our newborns, whether you’re a teenager, retiree, or something in between!

While this is a remarkable experience, baby kittens require a lot of care and attention. Please note that individuals must be able to bend and stoop to work with our bottom crates, and must be able to lift 20 pounds.

On June 20th, 2013, Love Your Rescue Pet Day will be announced as an official proclamation day by the Austin City Council! The celebration of the 1st annual day will be held on Saturday, June 22nd.

Love Your Rescue Pet Day will be an annual celebration to show our pets how much we support them. It’s a day to let your pet know that THEY rescued YOU. It’s a day to pamper your pet and shower him or her with love. It’s a day to celebrate the joys of adoption.

We will be celebrating this day with adoption specials, special events at dog parks and dog friendly restaurants, and by fundraising to keep Austin the largest No-Kill city in the U.S.

We would like to invite local businesses to help support the shelter pets of Austin and surrounding communities by pledging to donate 5% of your sales to Austin Pets Alive! on Saturday, June 22nd. Your tax-deductible donation will go directly to Austin Pets Alive’s life saving efforts. From the heart of Austin Pets Alive’s Neonatal Ward, take a look inside and you are likely to see Beckie with her arms full of kittens and her heart full of joy. Beckie trains new volunteers to help in the nursery, while attending the volunteer orientations to recruit new volunteers and fosters for baby kittens that are in their earliest days in Austin. Beckie’s impact has touched many lives, both human and feline, at Austin Pets Alive! and our co-volunteers and staff members sang about Beckie’s contributions…

She fosters, she transports, she does all of our training, and she holds it together. She’s also the fun side of the nursery, bringing the volunteers together too! It’s that time of year again… time to Strut Your Mutt!

Strut Your Mutt is a nationwide charity dog walk hosted by Best Friends Animal Society.  We are thrilled that for the second year in a row, Austin will be one of eleven cities nationwide to host a Strut Your Mutt event.

Those of you following APA! last year may remember Strut Your Mutt 2012 – we had 129  Dog Pack members, raising grand total of $31,655.94. Seems tough to beat, right?  Well, true to APA! style, we can’t help but out-do ourselves for the sake of saving more lives and have set our sights on raising $50,000.  That’s enough money to save an additional 200 dogs and cats this year.

How can you help?

1. Join our Dog Pack! Sign up to walk with us on September 28th. Each walker’s registration fee will go toward APA!’s overall fundraising goal, as long as you select Austin Pets Alive! from the drop-down menu when you register.

2. Collect pledges! After registration, you’ll have a customized page where you can collect pledges from friends, family, and coworkers who will sponsor your walk.  Even if you can’t attend the event on September 28th, you can sign up as a Virtual Fundraiser to collect pledges.

3. Donate toward a Dog Pack member! Can’t make the event on September 28th, and not interested in being a Virtual Fundraiser? Pick one of our amazing Dog Pack members to sponsor with a donation.

This isn’t your average dog walk.  This is the chance to be part of something big. Being the largest No-Kill city in the United States and home to dozens of rescue groups, it only makes sense that Austin bands together in support of our furry friends.  And yes, that includes dogs AND cats (our friends at Shadow Cats, another Strut Your Mutt rescue, can vouch for that!).
