The #1 reason that pets are surrendered to our shelter is for behavior reasons. APA! is building resources in Austin to help pet owners with problems, before the problems become too large and the bond between the owner and pet is destroyed.
Until we have a resource center, however, our ability to offer services is limited.
Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender
Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (P.A.S.S.) is a service provided by APA! to help people help their pets to find new homes or to stay in their current homes.
We work together with you to determine and implement the best solution for you and your pet. We offer advice and assistance with solving behavioral or medical issues, and limited assistance with rehoming your pet.
Other Austin Resources
Austin is rich with resources to help people with their pets. We have compiled a list of the best resources to help with the majority of problems that people have with their pets.
No Kill Handbill
Send an email to our handbill, which has been sending out pet rescue information to approximately 800 individuals in Central Texas since 1998.
The top goal of the newsletter is to provide information that may either save pets who are currently at the Austin Animal Center or to keep pets out of the Center (from being surrendered to the shelter). Additionally, the newsletter provides details about upcoming events for animal welfare groups, classes or training, and other related news to the no-kill goal and animal welfare.
