HOW TO SUBMIT A
MESSAGE TO THE NO-KILL HANDBILL
(Form is below the guidelines)
Any interested person
may submit articles for publication in the
Handbill and we are very interested in receiving
messages that people would like to have published.
However, there are certain guidelines that the
Handbill must follow! Articles must be related
either to saving pets who are in the Town Lake
Animal Center or to keeping pets out of the
Center.
- Please send the article to
handbill@hotmail.com
- Your article must begin with a title. Do not make the
title all capital letters. This can cause the Handbill to be marked as spam by some
spam filters. Instead, capitalize only the first letter of each word of the title.
- The No-Kill Handbill will only publish contact
information if given direct permission to do so. In other words,
no contact information can be posted about one person on behalf of
another person. This is done to protect your privacy.
- This also applies to forwarded messages. We will still
need the original sender's permission to publish his or her name, email address or
phone number.
- The text of the article must contain complete
sentences and reasonable grammar.
- The article must be signed with a first and a last
name, as well as an email address. Articles that are missing this information will
not be published.
- Please do not send us photos. If you would like to
provide a photo, instead of sending us the bulky attachment, please provide a link
or web address for the photo, or offer to email the photo to readers who are
interested. We do not have enough room in our Inbox for large photo attachments.
- The phrase:
Permission to Cross Post
means that you are giving
the permission to forward your message. It does not mean that you have given
the Handbill permission to publish a message with someone else's name, email
address and phone number. Please respect the crossposting requests on all
submissions. Submissions labeled Do Not Crosspost cannot be posted to other email
lists. Crossposting endangers the animals.
- Another reason an article is not published is because
many of the messages we receive are inflammatory. The message is often so critical
that the message gets lost. Be careful as to how you word your message. If you need
volunteers to help you battle a cause or attend a function, name the cause or function
and give your contact information. Don't include anger, displeasure or horror stories
about the situation you're trying to champion. The No-Kill Handbill is not prepared to
promote any cause other than the No-Kill plan. The Handbill tries to get unbiased
information to our readers.
- Previously published Handbills cannot be altered per our publishing
provider.
While we do not publish articles with known inaccuracies,
Austin Pets Alive! does not independently verify articles for accuracy. Austin Pets
Alive! reserves the right to edit all articles submitted. The following editing changes
will always be made:
- "Euthanasia" is by definition, an
applicable term only for those who are killed for reason of terminal illness.
Animals who are killed because they are homeless, have behavior problems, or are
unwanted, are not, by definition, "euthanized". In that context, this
word will always be changed to [killed].
- Because pets are sentient beings, Austin Pets Alive!
does not believe they can be owned in the sense that an inanimate object can be
owned. Therefore, the word "owner" in this context will always be
changed to [guardian].
- Austin Pets Alive! may refuse to print an
article for any reason.
