Baby Buttons here for my last post. I’ve had a couple of milestones since I last wrote. First, I turned one-year old! My mom and dad had a birthday party for me and everything! Second, and most exciting, I got officially adopted!!! My foster mom and dad officially adopted me.

I spend my days chasing my feline brothers around, climbing up the cat tree, cuddling with my mom, chirping at the birds outside on the bird feeder, snuggling with my older canine brother, and just being a kitten. I still have a few side effects from my injuries; I have to wear a diaper because I can’t control my bladder, and I can’t walk (but I sure can scoot around in my cart).

I want to thank everyone for all their support and well wishes. Even though my body didn’t completely heal after my accident, all the donations were used towards my medication, physical therapy and cart. I will permanently be on medication to help my bladder issues. I use my cart everyday- without it, pressure would constantly be on my spine creating future problems for me.

We spent months in physical therapy and although we didn’t get the outcome everyone was hoping for, we at least know that we gave it a try. We don’t have to wonder, “maybe if we would have had the funds for physical therapy, maybe I could walk.”

I want everyone to know that I’m a very happy kitten! In fact, as I’m dictating this to my mom (of course, I’m not typing, cats don’t have any thumbs!) I’m hunting my crinkly ball and chasing my catnip mouse. Thank you everyone and APA! for giving me a second chance!!!

Buttons here again. My foster mom asked me to write about my new cart. It’s pretty cool, it’s red and has awesome, huge wheels! That’s what I like most about it, and I mostly like to look at it, I prefer not to be in it. My foster mom says it’ll help keep pressure off my back so she puts me in it while I eat and for little bits when she’s at home. And guess what? My cart was donated by my physical therapy clinic so that means I can use the donated money for more physical therapy and doctor appointments! My therapy progress is slow, but I get stronger day by day. Check out the picture of me in my cart. (My mom says I should be a little kitty model, she’s silly.)

Here I am at physical therapy with Sandra. I love her, she’s been trying to help me walk. Basically, I do a lot of stretches and strengthening exercises. At the very end we all get into the big tub and I go swimming. (I don’t like that very much, but my mom and Sandra say it’s good for me.) Take a look at my video and pictures!

Poor Buttons was dropped off at the shelter after his legs had been shut in a door and he couldn’t walk. By the time he came to APA he was dehydrated with severe diarrhea on top of being unable to move his back legs. After months of medication, Buttons can now only use his front legs and must drag his back legs behind him. Buttons is a very happy kitten but sadly he may never walk again. Also, because his injury was so severe, he doesn’t have complete control of his bladder. He uses his litter box occasionally but he has accidents as well. Buttons is in need of a special home that will be able to care for his needs as he grows.

In spite of his injury, Buttons loves to play, climb and chase his toys around the house. He loves his foster siblings too. He crawls around trying to “sneak” up on the other dogs and cats in the house. He’s not quite as stealth as he thinks he is, but they don’t mind and pretend to be surprised all the same. The game usually ends with wrestling and Buttons crawls off quite convinced he was the champion. Buttons’ lovable character will make him a wonderful companion for someone special. Buttons will be going to physical therapy for the next few weeks. He’s going to be chronicling his experiences on our blog so check back for updates on his progress!

We need to raise $800 for him. We estimate that his physical therapy is going to cost $600 and a special cart to replace his back legs will cost $200. Please help us get Buttons the care he needs so he can have a happy and healthy life!
