Neville the Dog Enjoying His Fresh Start

by Lisa Maxwell • Posted in: Press Releases

February 25, 2016 (Austin, TX) — Neville, the dog that was sentenced to death
but ultimately saved thanks to a massive social media campaign and legal battle,
has settled in well at his new home, said his new family in an update to Austin Pets
Alive! today.

According to his new mom, in the past four months, Neville has successfully
completed both rounds of heartworm treatment. Having seen two vets, it has been
determined that he has a severe case of hip dysplasia, a very painful condition
which may have contributed to his biting a child while in APA!’s care. Neville will
meet with a vet next week to determine if he can undergo surgery to repair his hip.

“Neville really enjoys life around his new
house.” said Neville’s adopter. “He is finally
able to enjoy our half-acre fenced yard. On any
given day Neville sees deer, wild turkey, neville
chipmunks, squirrels, and a large variety of
birds. Sometimes people even ride horses by
our house or an escaped cow might wander
down the road.

He wakes us up at 7 a.m. on the dot every
morning to go out and then have breakfast.
Neville likes to sleep in the sun room on the
couch or on one of his many plush dog beds.
When he is not sleeping, watching the world,
or interacting with the other animals Neville
can be found following me around the house.
Neville’s favorite toys are tennis balls — he could
chew on them for hours.

We are super happy to have him as part of the
family. He is ohana and we tell him every day…”Ohana means family, and
family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” (Lilo and Stitch)”

“APA!’s philosophy is to treat every animal as an individual.” said Ellen Jefferson,
Executive Director of APA!. “Although Neville did have a bite incident, looking at the
entire situation, we came to the conclusion that Neville is not a dangerous dog, but
rather one who reacted out of pain. We are so pleased to see him find the perfect
home for him, where he and his new family bring each other so much love. That is
our goal for each of the animals in our care.”
