Thanks so much to everyone who came out on Saturday to our first annual SweetBarks Honky Tonk. Thanks also to Fox 7 News who did a very nice story and let the community know about our need for a building. Check out our photos of the event, by the fabulous photographers Ken Simpson and Ed Lehmann.
We raised $3,600. That’s enough for us to rescue approximately 36 more pets. Our cost per pet from the time they enter our program until adoption (and sometimes past adoption) averages $225. That doesn’t include our special cases like Honey and Seth, of course. Costs for shots, medicine, sterilization, other surgeries, microchip, boarding, and food add up quickly. We get approximately $125 per pet from adoption costs, so we lose about $100 per pet, which is where our fundraising activities step in to make up the difference.
But we also had a great time on Saturday! Little Mikey and the Soda Jerks and the West Coast Pinups set the perfect honky tonk mood. Probably the best part, though, was seeing so many of our dog alum, like Rocky and Mr. Z, again!
Thanks to everyone who helped make this event such a success, especially Jo’s and Hotel San Jose for letting us use their parking lot for the day. It was a beautiful thing to see so many in the community come together to help our 4-legged friends.
