Annie Oakley

“Excuse me, can I have your attention for a moment? Just a moment! Great, thanks! A moment is all it will take for you to fall in love with me. My name’s Annie Oakley, and as my name depicts, I am a large and lovely bundle of adorable wrapped in a cookies and cream coating; in short- your dream dog.

All I want more than anything in the whole wide world is a home of my own as your “one and only.” My chocolate eyes are so warm and consuming that you’ll wish you could fit more hours into the day to just gaze at them. And boy, am I talented! Who needs a Lamborghini when they have me: the best sports dog nature has to offer. I can leap across basketball courts, chase tennis balls until the sun goes down, and run by your side until you (or I) decide it’s time for a potty break. We’ll have so much fun, that we’ll have to re-write the definition of the word! And energy? That Duracell bunny has nothing on me. My dog power can probably keep an entire energy plant running for decades!

What else could you want from a dog? Beauty? My luscious, black coat will capture all the rays of the sun just for you and reflect them back with the brilliance of a sky full of stars. Versatility? I have eight speeds: walk, jog, run, chase, leap, prance, mosey, and the oh so popular “snooze.” Companionship? My heart has the strength to endure anything (and I mean anything!) with the spare momentum to generate an endless supply of love.

Sound too good to be true? Well, many others must have thought so too, because they just passed me by. I bet you’re different, though! Just give me a chance. See the desire behind my eyes to love and be loved. It is this love that gives me the ability to excel beyond your wildest expectations.

For an awful long time, I have watched my playmates come into the orphanage, and leave with a promise of a loving home. I know what lonely is- enough to know that no one in this entire world should ever have to feel it. In fact, I desperately hope to cure loneliness for a very special individual who welcomes my remedy. I will fill your days with the only kind of love a dog can give- unconditional. I will supply you with the endless reassurance that you will never have to march alone for the rest of your life. I will be there for you, just as you are there for me.

I want to wake up every morning to the comforting sound of your breathing. I want to race alongside you every day, rain or shine, in one of those “yards” everyone keeps barking about. I want to stretch out on your porch and inhale the sweet fragrance of home. I want to eat from my bowl on your kitchen floor, and keep you company as you take your afternoon nap on the sofa. I want to make you lick the frowns off of your face, to chase your fears away with the wag of my tail, to revel with you in your most cheerful moments. I want to rest my head on your chest every evening and relax to the calming rhythm of your heartbeat. I am Annie Oakley, and I am not just another dog without a home. I am YOUR dog, far from home. Please, come and get me. Open your door to me and I will open my heart to you. I promise you that you will never regret it!”

Annie’s current foster home cannot keep her much longer. She’s picky about her dog friends and the trainer recommends some training and one-on-one time with her before she is introduced to another dog in the home. This obviously rules out most of our foster homes and many adopters. But we know the right, lucky person is out there! Way to go baby girl. I am so proud of you. You were an awesome mom, awesome foster mom to Rosebud’s babies and just a big old goof ball with our babies in the country. I am beyond excited to hear you have beat heartworms and have found you a GREAT forever home. Love your first foster mom. Big paw prints on my heart! :)
