Be a Queen for Mother’s Day and save some orphans!

by austinpetsalive • Posted in: Foster

Many people don’t know, but “Queen” is actually the term used to describe a mother cat! Yesterday APA took in 25 orphaned kittens that need a “Queen” to step in and provide the support a mother cat would give. Our nursery is currently filled past capacity, and so is our orphan foster program. For Mother’s Day, please sign up to be a Queen to these wonderful babies and save their lives. If we don’t get more fosters signed up IMMEDIATELY we will be forced to stop saving these babies from TLAC and they will get killed. We need your help now, and will to teach you all you need to know about caring for these babies.

Rudy is a Gruel Baby we need foster for right now.

There are 3 different kinds of fosters, and all 3 are vital to our continued ability to save lives. You can sign up to foster only 1 type of kitten or all 3.

1.  Gruel Baby Foster: 3-5wk old kittens. These are kittens that no longer have to be bottle fed for every meal and are able to eat “gruel” (milk replacer mixed with wet food in a saucer that they lap up). These kittens sometimes will need some supplement from the bottle, and still need daily weighing/monitoring, but are less labor intensive then bottle babies. They need to be checked on every 5-6 hours during the day, but can get through an 8 hour night without care.

2.  Bottle Baby Foster: 0-3wk old kittens. These kittens need more intensive care – help going to the bathroom (just rub their butt with a cotton ball and they go!), bottle feeding every 2-3 hours during the day (but can go for 6 hours at night), twice daily weighing and monitoring. This is a great project for stay at home moms and dads, or folks that work from home. These guys will literally only take up a tiny cage in your house, which makes fostering in small spaces easy.

3.  Moms with babies: We do get in pregnant moms or moms that have already given birth and are nursing their kittens. These are the easiest, least labor intensive of all the baby foster types. Mom does all the work grooming, feeding, and caring for the babies. All you have to do is take care of mom and make sure the babies are staying healthy/gaining weight.

Rowena, Raleigh and Rownder are babies that are being taken care of by their momma “Claire”. This family needs a foster immediately.
