Austin Pets Alive! is excited to announce – and welcome – our first ever Veterinary Intern, Dr. Hazell! Dr. Hazell will be shadowing all three of the APA! veterinarians for the next year. She will be rotating roles and learning how our vets work, make decisions, and are able to treat so many animals successfully.
This is a huge step for the APA! Clinic and presents a new avenue for us to share our mission and the amazing work that happens here every day. To learn more about Dr. Hazell, read her bio below:
Dr. Hazell is originally from San Antonio and got her start at Austin Pets Alive! volunteering in the Parvo Puppy ICU while getting her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas. She then began shadowing the APA! vets and fostering, as well.
After she finished her undergraduate work at UT she attended Oklahoma State for veterinary school, knowing that she wanted to be a shelter veterinarian and work at APA! when she graduated. While at Oklahoma State, Dr. Hazell was the President of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians and helped found a program called Dogs of Lincoln where shelter dogs were placed in an alternative high school where the students cared for and trained them. Her dream is to spread the No Kill movement to cities that desperately need it! When Dr. Hazell isn’t saving lives she enjoys going to Texas Country concerts and spending time with her 5 rescue dogs.
