Hot Dogs and Cool Cats – This Weekend!

by Hilary Bentley • Posted in: Adoptions, Events

In honor of National Hot Dog Day on July 23rd, we’re having a special adoption event, Hot Dogs and Cool Cats.

This weekend, July 23 and 24, the special fee is $25 for all cats and kittens and dogs 35lbs and up. In addition, prize packs are being put together for the events happening at Tarrytown, Petco Hancock, and our Adoption & Resource Center. There will also be a free raffle drawing of all adopters from the whole weekend. Thank you to Frost Bank for sponsoring this event and donors of gift certificates and prizes Moonshine Grill, Rowing Dock, Natural Gardener and Frank.

Plus, see what you can learn from our pets about keeping cool in this Austin summer heat:

You guys always have the BEST adoption event ideas!! I wish more shelters would run fun events like this :)

How do you come up with your ideas?

    Thanks Jess!
We just get a big group of people together to brainstorm ideas. This year, we planned out the whole year, but have added some smaller events here and there, like the ringworm “Fun in Fungus” event last weekend.

Right now I am looking for the most dangerous, fierce dog ever who is all looks and can just assimilate into our home! 70 pounds and up is just fine. We have two boys (age 9 and 41/2) plus a small poodle. Because of a new living situation I need a “guard dog” to sleep 355 days a year in my sunny windows and look over protective once a month. Housebroken is a must. We do not care if the dog is on a sofa or in the pool. This new family member will get tons if walks and love but needs to be laid back, aside from appearance. Mabel and Jessica stand out right now. Any ideas or recommendations on our new spoiled rotten dog-to-be?

    Hi Marcie,
We invite you to come by our building at 2807 Manchaca to talk more about your needs. Or you can email our adoption team at email hidden; JavaScript is required and they should be able to help you.

Thank you! My husband, boys and I will probably do some visits tomorrow because we are smitten by a couple of the larger dogs that love children, other animals and a good hour long walk! We are able to adopt a pit mix. Thanks for the suggestion to stop by headquarters to help us find the right “guard dog”. I am certain we can give a wonderful home to the right pet!

Take “Asia” off your list, she is ours and is a total lady! We spent three hour with her today and put her through children and our other dog in our household. Marcella was running the adoption process and she is unflappable even when about six puppies showed how unhousebroken they were at the same time. We have awesome photos to send of our vicious, protective guard dog rolling on the living room carpet. Thank you!

Wonderful news Marcie! Asia is so great and it was definitely about time she found her forever home! Please e-mail us photos at email hidden; JavaScript is required or post them to our facebook page!
