Puppy with Traumatic Amputation to Back Leg Arrives at Austin Pets Alive!

July 29, 2016 (Austin, TX)- A young puppy with a traumatic amputation to her back leg arrived at Austin Pets Alive! and will likely need an additional amputation surgery to properly heal.APA-Peggy

Peggy, a female puppy approximately six weeks old was brought to APA! from the City of San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter with an amputation of her rear leg.

Peggy-Radiograph“This injury looks very traumatic but we can’t say exactly what happened to cause this amputation,” said Jordana Moerbe, Medical Clinic Manager for Austin Pets Alive!. “With the pain she probably feels, she is still incredibly sweet and snuggly.”

Peggy and her sister Luann came into the APA! medical clinic where they were evaluated. Veterinarians determined that Peggy will require amputation of the entire leg and will be scheduled for surgery next week.

APA! is seeking donations to help offset the costs of Peggy’s care and they are also looking for a foster home for both Peggy and Luann. Peggy will require continuous care and rehabilitation during her recovery from surgery.
