Phoenix Update 7-19-2008

by epjdog • Posted in: Rescue

Sorry so long between posts. We actually have a lot of good news. His doctors took xrays yesterday and said his bullae in his lungs is gone! They are going to have the xrays reviewed by the radiologist before committing to that answer but it appears that he has miraculously healed the little air pocket. That is no small feat considering the fact that most of those do not go away ever without surgery. Your prayers and supportive thoughts are working!

He is still blind but he is finally being evaluated for detached retinas (he couldn’t stand the restraint before). Maybe there is something that can be surgically fixed to restore vision.

At night he is able to leave the hospital to go home with his foster parent, Cameron. He still has to be hospitalized during the day. She is so sweet to love on him and just hold him. We think that is going to tremendously boost his confidence and personality. The picture above is one she took of him getting a little time outside. She is working on a video to show his walking skills too.

Anyway, really a good week for him. One touching story- Cam took him to get a toy on the way home from the hospital and a customer at the pet store recognized him and bought all the food and toys for him. Thank you to whoever you are. Thank you to everyone who cares about him. He can’t help but improve with this amount of love behind him.

It is so great to hear such good news about Phoenix. I am so happy he is getting some foster care so he will have a sense of living in a home.
I just have to comment and say you people at Austin Pets Alive! are amazing. I am glad that his story led me to you, because even though I don’t live in Texas, I am very interested in what you are doing, and the stories of all the animals you rescue. You truly do great work.

I am so happy to hear this. He’s such a cutie and is blessed that he has such a great group of caring folks to nurse him back to health. Thanks for posting the update and taking such great care of him. Please post again soon – your friends in South Carolina are thinking of him everyday!

    Hello From San Diego!

I can tell you that after learning of this pups plight I was deeply affected. I won’t go into the “why did this happen” of it….I am so thrilled with his recovery and my prayers are that the retinal surgery works!. This boy deserves all of God’s graces. Truly this dog should be shown how good people really are.

this incident happened not far from my house. i have been in tears since i first heard of what happened. God has blessed Phoenix with DR. Ellen and Cameron and everybody else taking care of him. i know the mother of this puppy and she is a great little doggie. shame on the person responsible for his suffering.
