Headquartered in the capital city of Texas, we’re proud of our roots and committed to keeping Austin the country’s safest city for shelter pets. Funded through donations and a small number of grants, we provide help to the people and pets of Austin in many ways.

In 2023 alone we took in more than 3,500 pets from known Austin addresses;2,172 of those dogs and cats came to us directly from the city shelter, Austin Animal Center. We also provide resources and services to community members who are facing challenges keeping their pets via our PASS Program.

The role Austin Pets Alive! plays in the community is different from that of a taxpayer-funded municipal shelter. Our programs and the pets benefiting from them are built to support our mission. Our purpose in this community is to serve those animals who truly have no other options due to lack of resources within municipal shelters or within a private home.
