Merrill is like a little dog. She'll run to the door to greet you when you come home at night! She likes to keep close, and if you take a step back without looking chances are you'll run into Merrill.
If a cat could be well-trained, Merrill is very well trained. She never uses her claws with you, even in stressful situations. She's very polite, and never complains when breakfast or dinner is late. She just walks between you and her bowl until you get the message. Begging for food? Unless it's an Oreo or animal cracker, Merrill doesn't want it. (And even those foods are questionable). At night, she might decide your pillow is the best place to rest but she won't try to lay on your face. Most nights, she ends up curled up against one of your legs.
Merrill always wants to know what's happening, her favorite spots in the house are spots where she can observe everything. In the morning, she'll sit in the kitchen doorway to watch mom and dad prepare breakfast while still being in earshot of the teenager. At big dinner parties, she plops down in the middle between the kids and adult tables. She'll check out any dropped food, but there's little chance she'll do more than sniff.
Merrill is a social girl and introduces herself to new people. She always wants to know what her person is doing, and isn't afraid to sit on your notebooks. When you go to the bathroom, Merrill follows. She's more likely to investigate a new person/sound/object than run and hide. She's even attempted to make peace with the vacuum.
Merrill has a gorgeous color and face, but she's an odd shaped cat. She's a great conversation starter with guests, cause chances are, she'll be there to greet them when they visit. The first thing people notice about Merrill is her tail, she's got a little bob that's super cute when she gets annoyed and wags it around. Second, her weight. Merrill is currently a hefty 12 lbs, but we're working on it. Her weight is compounded by the fact that Merrill's back is oddly shorter than most cats. She looks like a little ball of cat. Because of her proportions, her back legs don't have the range of motion they should, so she can't jump into bed, but she can get on chairs and couches. Her back is a bit sensitive, but she's not in any pain.
Merrill isn't one to demand attention, but when she does, she will attempt to climb up your stomach and stick her face in yours. She'll give you a sniff before finally sitting beside you, resting her head on her front paws and draping them over your leg. She'll sit for hours and let you love on her. She especially loves head rubs and under chin scratches.
As an older woman, Merrill's much more interested in pets than playing. If you roll a jingle ball in her direction, she'll look at it and then run to you and ask for head rubs. She does like shiny things (like tinsel), but only supervised! Don't be surprised to come home and find Merrill sitting in the exact same spot that you left her. She will occasionally climb her cat tree to get a different napping spot, but she's a sedentary cat. She does enjoy exploring, and when you open a new kitchen cabinet, she's climbing in. The most active you'll see her is the first couple days of investigating a new home.
Merrill would prefer a family who is home often, as she enjoys attention and being around people. She'd be a great companion for a senior citizen or someone who works from home. She's a princess who doesn't like sharing her person's attention with another cat, but she'd likely be fine with calm dogs or kids if they understand that cats aren't toys!
Merrill is the perfect first cat as she's nice, low maintenance, and enjoys the company of her people. Wouldn't you love to meet this girl? Write us and you can be her next house guest.
