We've been teaching Harper a thing or two about us humans. He's a cautious kitty who was so nervous when he arrived at APA!, that he spent weeks hiding under the fish tank. But his on-going lessons about the goodness in people, the fringe benefits of trust, and the power of love are really starting to paying off - now he can't get enough tummy rubs!
Harper is learning that humans can be downright awesome and he's reveling in this new-found knowledge (literally). He likes getting head and chin scratches and has progressed from taking cover when humans enter the room to happily rolling over for belly rubs. He has quite the aptitude for purring, simply pet him and that motor of his begins to rumble away. We haven't seen this handsome boy play just yet, but once he feels more secure we think the playful side of him will increasingly come out.
Harper gets along well with other cats. His kitty roommates love grooming him and he good naturedly lets them, purring away as they get him all spiffed up. We haven't seen him around kids, but older children would likely be fine if they are patient and respectful of his need to get to know them slowly. Harper likes to observe and would be so happy with a nice place to get all cozy and watch the world go by.
Harper is a healthy FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) cat. FIV+ cats typically live long, healthy lives! For more information, please contact APA! or read this FAQ: http://bit.ly/2DPxI43
Harper is FeLV+ (Feline Leukemia Virus), which causes a weakened immune system and requires special care. APA! provides some medical assistance after adoption. Cats with FeLV typically have a shortened lifespan. Harper is not contagious to people or dogs, but should live only with other FeLV+ cats. For more information, please contact APA! or read more by our Partner, Best Friends Animal Society: http://bit.ly/2FwYCxR
Harper has really begun to blossom and we would love for him to continue blooming in a forever home. A quiet household would be best that includes patience and all the time this sweet scaredy needs to become comfortable. He would get along with another kitty or as your one and only furry friend.
How will you know when you've successfully taught Harper about the joys of humans? When you see the trust in his eyes and feel your heart begin to melt, you're there...class dismissed!
All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
