Sweet, affectionate explorer

When a cat is named "Popsicle" it's natural (to us at least) to speculate on what flavor she might be. In our Popsicle's case, the answer is butterscotch, licorice, and coconut. Or to put it another way: orange, black, and white. Or to put it another way: wildly, enthusiastically, gorgeously calico. Yep, this is one very calico cat!

When she's off on her own, Popsicle is a very happy and curious explorer, scaling the occasional tall object for a true cat's eye view of the terrain. She is also a very loving cat who instinctively wants to be near people, but needs to find a safe place to hide out until she is comfortable enough to show herself to future adoring fans. When that happens - probably after a week or so - she approaches you, slowly at first, and if you'll let her, on her own terms.

After this initial ballet, Popsicle began rubbing up against her foster and soon after even rubbing faces with her. She hasn't demonstrated that she's a lap cat yet, but hey...it's a great start.

After overcoming initial skittishness, Popsicle also applies this slow and easy, rubbing-all-over approach to other cats. Basically, she loves other cats and wants to demonstrate her love, but if they don't return her feelings - for example, if they hiss at her - she will swat at them! She hasn't seemed to figure out that other cats may not love her immediately, that THEY may need some time to warm up to HER. We think that she needs a slow introduction to another cat - where you create the personal space and boundaries, since Popsicle's motto tends to be: "Boundaries? What boundaries?" With time and patience, we think she and another similar cat could be good buddies.

So far, dogs are unknown territory. But we suspect that after her initial wariness, Popsicle would be satisfied with a mutual ignoring pact. And after that, who knows? Her sweet and loving nature should be fine with older kids who respect her space until she's comfortable.

If you think your family flavor is one that Popsicle is sure to love, while eagerly scarfing up seconds, we'd love to arrange for a taste test.

All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
