Playful, Silly, Energetic

Van Helsing is a kitty that's a little confused about his name - when he first came to APA!, he hid under the Felvie Aquarium like HE was a little vampire, hissing at all the daywalkers. Within a week, he'd ventured out into the sun and remembered that he's a kitty, not a creature of the night! Now he scampers around and plays with the humans he calls friends. It takes Van Helsing a little bit of time to warm up to humans, but once he knows you're a buddy, he loves to play with any toy mice, feather toys, or tunnels you have on hand! Recently he's come to terms with the fact that humans are AWESOME! He now happily accepts head scratches & belly rubs, just go slow and he will be in bliss.

Van Helsing's perfect home would be one with patient people who understand that it takes him a minute to get his bearings and get to know you... but once he knows it's safe, it's off to the races! He'd especially love a home with lots of tunnels and boxes to run through and hide in, like his own little Castle Dracula. He also would have no problem with another friendly kitty around, to be his playmate!

Van Helsing has tested positive for FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). FeLV cats have a virus that causes a weaker immune system - they do not have cancer! For the most part, felvies are just like any other cat. You could not pick one out of the crowd, and they generally do not require much additional care. As a bonus, we waive their adoption fees! APA! provides full coverage and treatment for any FeLV-related issues that arise after the time of adoption. Cats with FeLV typically have a shortened lifespan - we like to compare it to the lifespan of adopting a senior kitty, with the added benefit that they don't have chronic senior health problems, and that FeLV-related medical care is covered. Van Helsing is not contagious to people, dogs or other animals, but should live only with other FeLV+ cats. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
