From Gracie's foster: "Gracie is the sweetest dog and loves to snuggle. She'll come sit right next to me (or partially on me) at the end of a long day. She loves to run around in the backyard and play fetch. When we first took her home she jumped up a lot and now she's mellowed out and is minding her manners. She loves one of her baby stuffed animals so much she ripped the arms and legs off of him and still carries him (and sometimes the arms/legs too). Every morning she sits on the rug (one of her "places") and watches us leave for the day."

Gracie is an Austinite through and through. She loves staying active in any way possible: walking the neighborhood, jogging by your bike, swimming in the lake, or hiking the trails. She's also a fetch master and tug enthusiast. Between her leash skills and love of people, she makes a great companion for food truck dining and coffee shop patios.

After a run or a swim or a game of fetch, she's more than happy to snuggle up with you and shower you with kisses.

This intelligent, affectionate pup is always eager to learn new tricks (especially if there are treats in it for her) and is in the Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modelled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Gracie has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help her learn the skills to become the best dog she can be! She is learning skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," and coming when called.

Once Gracie successfully completes all the skills on his/her training plan he/she will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Gracie is working hard to become a wonderful pet and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Gracie after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together.
