Marilla is an extremely happy dog whose butt wiggles like crazy when you approach her kennel. Her smile is contagious. Marilla's default assumption when meeting new people is that they are new best friends. She cannot get close enough to people and will wind herself all around you trying to get as many body parts touching as possible.

This curious girl is happy to entertain herself if you give her a couple of toys, and she especially loves playing fetch with tennis balls. And if she can get some playtime in the water, even better. She enjoys swimming in the lake, but splashing in a baby pool will do in a pinch.

Marilla is an excellent passenger in the car enjoying riding shotgun. At home, this house trained pup likes walks and relaxing with her person. Receiving belly rubs is a welcome bonus.

Marilla also enjoys learning new things and is in the Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Marilla has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help her learn the skills to become the best dog she can be! She is learning skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," and coming when called.

Once Marilla successfully completes all the skills on her training plan, she will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Marilla is working hard to become a wonderful pet and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Marilla after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based:

Come meet Marilla and see if affectionate pup is right for your home.
