A little bit stubborn but overall a calm and good-natured pup, Payasa is loyal to her people and pretty easy to please. When out in the yard she gets spurts of playful energy, but she's also happy to chill when you are and is good at keeping herself entertained as long as there's a rope toy around that could use some extra attention. Payasa thinks rope toys were invented just for her and her favorite thing the world is playing tug of war with her person.
Payasa is a little shy with strangers but has done well meeting new people at the shelter and becomes very affectionate once you've made friends with her. In her prior home Payasa lived with two puppies she birthed and lived with through adulthood and could go home with a well-matched social doggie sibling.
This sweet senior has spent most of her life in a home and has solid manners - she's house-trained, knows "sit" and walks well on leash. Currently she learning new tricks in APA!'s Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Payasa has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help her learn the skills to become the best dog she can be! Name is learning skills like down, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "Place", which means she will go to a specific place in your home on command.
Once she successfully completes all the skills on her training plan, Payasa will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Payasa is working hard to become a wonderful companion, and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with her after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Playful, loyal and sweet, Payasa would make a wonderful addition to any number of loving homes. Come meet her!
