Cute - Curious - Social
Xavier is a very handsome boy with orange tabby markings on his head and back and a gleaming white undercoat. Looking at him, you would never know that he has already had to overcome a lot of adversity in his life. Though we're not sure, we believe that he was living on the street for most of his life. Xavier came to APA! after being hit by a car, which caused issues with his balance and gait and bathroom habits. After receiving some TLC, we are happy to say that Xavier can run and jump just like any other cat. He also has normal litter box habits.
Because of his past, Xavier does not particularly like to be handled or petted. Reading his signals as to whether he will accept pets at a given time will require a patient and savvy pet owner who is attuned to and accepting of his quirks. However, he is very social and enjoys being around his people. In his foster home, he likes to lay next to the resident humans on the couch and sleep on the bed at night. He has done well with the resident cats and large dog, though he will give a swat or two if he feels threatened by any creature, person, or toy. Kids would not be a good fit for him. Another quirk is that his food intake must be closely monitored - he will try to eat anything that smells good to him. He also prefers to scratch horizontally, so he should have plenty of horizontal scratching surfaces so that he does not try to get at the carpet.
Xavier is not a particularly playful cat - occasionally, he'll go after a string or chase a feline buddy, but he prefers to relax most of the time. Lolling around in a sunbeam on his back is a favorite activity, as is sitting in a window sill and watching the birds and squirrels. Mainly, what Xavier likes to do most is just sit and chill around and near humans. He would make a great companion because he is social but not at all needy. He also has a very cute meow that he uses at meal time and when he is looking around the house for a feline or human friend.
The ideal home for Xavier would include patient and loving adults who will love him for who he is, quirks and all. He would also do well with chill feline or canine friends. He's very low-maintenance and doesn't require much attention at all. He has already made great strides since being in his foster home. If you're looking for a handsome sidekick to hang out with on the couch, Xavier could be your new best bud.
