Curious, Smart, Goofy
Dutch Chocolate is a petite powerhouse with a big personality and beautiful eyes! Cute and adorable, she is also attention-loving. Her ideal home would be with people who want to play with her and give her affection. She doesn't need ALL of your time, but she needs some one-on-one time with you, for sure; she's the kind of cat who is a companion and an active member of your family. While she wants to be an active member of your family, she wants to be the only cat who is in your family, Queen Bee please!
Dutch is a smarty-pants-of-a-cat! She figured out how to use the cat door in her foster home without being shown (it took the resident cat almost an hour to learn). Her foster parents were in the garage, where the cat door exits, and Dutch wanted to be with them - so she simply sauntered through the door, no problem! She is similarly curious when you open the refrigerator or dishwasher, so you have to be on your toes to make sure she doesn't wander in there - but at least she hasn't figured out how to open those appliances on her own (yet!). You might enter the bathroom and find her sleeping in the sink; or playing with the water that slowly drips from the faucet; she likes to learn what everything is and check it out.
Dutch prizes her quality time with people, and will show her excitement with a cute "yip" sound when she sees you - she has developed her own distinctive chirp-that-sounds-like-a-yip. She loves for you to pet her super soft fur, and has only recently discovered the joy of a good belly rub - so she might have some lost time to make up for! And when you scratch her tail end, she will get her yoga on, sinking into a Downward-Facing Dog position. Or she may just flop over in complete bliss when you pet her, totally unaware that her short and fluffy tail may be in the nearby water bowl.
As much as she loves pets, Dutch loves to play even more; she is young and active. She will bat toys around and chase a ball now and then, and is happy playing by herself or with you. Her favorite toy is plush and stuffed with catnip. After she's played a bit, she is ready to curl up on something soft, like a blanket, or your lap, or a blanket on your lap...
Dutch is still learning how not to use her claws when she interacts with people - not in a defensive way and she doesn't scratch, just in a "Hey, look, I have claws!" kind-of-way. Her foster parents are working with her on this.
Dutch Chocolate is perfect for someone looking for an active, sometimes-silly cat who will interact affectionately with them. She is a sweet treat! Contact us today to arrange a meet & greet.
Dutch Chocolate has tested positive for FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). FeLV cats have a virus that causes a weaker immune system - they do not have cancer! For the most part, felvies are just like any other cat. You could not pick one out of the crowd, and they generally do not require much additional care. As a bonus, we waive their adoption fees! APA! provides full coverage and treatment for any FeLV-related issues that arise after the time of adoption. Cats with FeLV typically have a shortened lifespan - we like to compare it to the lifespan of adopting a senior kitty, with the added benefit that they don't have chronic senior health problems, and that FeLV related medical care is covered. Dutch Chocolate is not contagious to people, dogs or other animals, but should live only with other FeLV+ cats. For more information, please contact APA! or read more by our Partner, Best Friends Animal Society: http://bit.ly/2FwYCxR
All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
