Sweet and spunky senior!

When you hear the name Mildred, you probably think of a sweet, silver-haired old lady. She likes to sit in her rocking chair near a sunny window and crochet, and when you come to visit, she'll serve you homemade cookies and tea in a flowered English china teacup.

Our Mildred is pretty much the feline equivalent! This senior lady likes to spend her days sleeping in a sunny window. She loves to sit and sleep next to you, and she'll purr the minute you start petting her. She's easy-going with polite kids.

Don't get rowdy and run across her lawn, though, or she'll whack you upside the head with her cane! She tolerates other animals if they're polite, but she's definitely the boss. When the foster's dog got a little too pushy about being in her space, she seemed scared but then channeled all that nervous energy into explaining her philosophy to the dog in no uncertain terms: You stay outta my face and I'll stay outta yours!! The dog now steers a wide berth around her and peace reigns once again.

Like any senior, she has her ailments. Her kidneys are failing, so she needs to eat a special renal support food. The kidney issue and her aging joints sometimes make it hard for her to get into her litter box in time. You can help her with this by giving her a low-sided box surrounded by puppy pads. Maybe two, if you have a larger house.

Her previous owner may not have taught her the joys of scratching posts and pads, because she does enjoy a good scratch on the sofa. A nice assortment of catnip-sprinkled scratchers, plus double-sided tape on the sofa, may help eliminate this habit.

When she came to us, Mildred tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV+ cats can live with other pets and typically live long, healthy lives! For more information, please contact APA! or read this FAQ: http://bit.ly/2DPxI43

Mildred would love to live out her golden years in her own forever home. She needs someone who is comfortable dealing her quirks and will provide her renal food and associated medical care. She'll reward you many times over with her warm snuggles and sweet purrs! If you're looking for a calm, loving, older cat, contact us today to meet Mildred!

All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
