When Layla came to APA! she was in such poor shape that we designated her as a hospice cat. She must have seen this as a challenge, because she said, "Wait a minute. Hold my beer." And then she got better, thanks to the care and love from the medical staff and her foster mom!

Yeah, Layla is blind, but she is navigating her foster home like a pro. She explores the house, interacts with the resident cats, and easily finds her way back to her preferred napping spot! Layla won't jump up on anything, but uses a set of kitty stairs to get to the window seat she loves so much. Blind cats are amazing; they easily memorize where everything is in the house and can walk around as if fully-sighted. If you move something, just show Layla where it is, and in no time at all she will commit the new item to memory. Blind cats also use their superior hearing to keep track of goings-on in the house.

Layla has diabetes, but it's under control! It requires some extra medical care, which includes a regulated diet and insulin. (Giving Layla her insulin shots is a breeze because she thinks you're heading in for a snuggle session!) For more information, please contact APA!

And speaking of snuggles...Layla is a big-time snuggler! The only time she isn't happily making biscuits is when she is asleep. She is chill and mellow, and while the other cats in the house play, she is content to sit and cuddle. As the grandma kitty in the house, it's her job to keep an eye on the youngsters! She is smaller than they are, but they all get along easily, and they respect her.

"What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?"
