Meet Troye — a.k.a. “Roo.”
People often comment on Troye's good looks and sweet nature, however he's so much more! He's a playful, energetic, smart, and curious puppy. He loves people and adores most dogs.
When Troye’s excited, you’ll know it from his signature little hops that earned him the nickname Roo (as in kangaroo). It’s as cute as it sounds… possibly cuter!
This boy has many skills! He politely waits by the door — or rings a bell, thank you very much — when he needs to go outside. He lets out a single bark to indicate when he needs his water or food bowl refilled, or when something is out of the norm. He also knows an impressive list of commands: sit, lie down, wait, stay, place, shake, spin, go to bed, and more.
Once he trusts you to be his safe, reliable human, Troye loves showing off his talents. He’s highly motivated to learn new tricks, especially when training involves fun games and boiled chicken. (Despite his sensitive tummy, Troye is an aspiring foodie.) He's exceptionally quiet most of the time, but, given the right toys, he might even let you hear his "whale" sounds!
Troye proudly graduated Puppy First Grade with honors at Every Dog Behavior Training, and he recently learned some cool pattern games in his Control Unleashed class there. He’s even started demoing more advanced skills, like loose-leash walking — though he’s still practicing how to stay zen around the fascinating sights and smells outside, like other animals and Very Important Leaves. He rides well in the car, loves exploring the great outdoors, and is well on his way to becoming an A+ adventure buddy.
As a parvo survivor who’s still discovering the world, Troye can sometimes feel unsure of new things. He does best with calm, confident humans (and dog friends!) to help his curiosity outshine his caution. With clear, gentle guidance, patience, enthusiastic encouragement, and plenty of praise for his bravery, he quickly comes into his own. Treats and a good sense of humor help, too!
Troye appreciates a predictable schedule — he’s practically a four-legged Swiss watch — yet he’s adaptable enough to roll with occasional stay-up-late and sleep-in mornings. An ideal day for him includes a mix of the familiar and the new, with plenty of physical and mental exercise in the morning and evening. He likes his training sessions short, his walks extra long, and his TV time social (preferably curled up on the couch with his humans after his last walk before bed).
This is a puppy who will thrive with fenced-in green spaces to run, new places to explore, and kind, patient humans who never tire of complimenting his spot-on kangaroo impressions. He would also be thrilled to have a canine buddy to zoom, wrestle, and gossip about squirrels with!
At heart, Troye is a sweet puppy and a lovable goofball who does his best every day. He believes that loving social connections, good meals, fresh air, and playing are the keys to a happy life — and he’d love to share that life with you.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who’s equal parts heart and hop, you probably won’t find a better one than Troye. His foster parents lovingly call him “the best puppy ever,” and they would be thrilled to introduce you so he can finally find his forever home.
PUPPIES AND OTHER HIGHLY-ADOPTABLE DOGS DISCLAIMER:
Puppies and other highly-adoptable dogs (small dogs or desirable-breed dogs) at APA! are very high in demand and usually have several interested adopters. Inquiring about a dog, meeting a dog, and even applying for a dog does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt the dog. Only one household will be able to adopt each dog, which means all other interested households will inevitably and unfortunately be disappointed. Please consider this in your search and set your expectations accordingly. Please also consider that adult dogs do not typically have competing adopters, and they need furever homes, too! Additionally, APA! does not allow the adoption of dogs who are related (e.g., littermates or mom and pup) to the same household for behavioral reasons.
