Sitter Needed: 12/23/19-12/27/19
Dennis is his name and smiling is his game! This compact little guy exudes happiness everywhere he goes. His tail wags nonstop when he's off on one of his adventures with his favorite people by his side. And don't let his senior status fool you - this boy loves to play! Whether he's chasing after tennis balls, roaming the ball fields or splashing in the pond, Dennis is having the time of his life! While he's got an impressive energy level for a dog his age, it doesn't take long for him to burn it off and get back to chilling with his person at home. He also has the coolest bat signal-shaped white patch on his chest!
As much as he likes to play and go adventuring, Dennis' favorite activity is probably hanging out on the couch, curled up in a little black ball and snoozing in front of the TV. He loves getting belly rubs with that silly grin on his face, and he does this adorable thing where he waves his paws by his nose to indicate he wants more. Dennis can be shy with new people, but he really loves cheese, so that seems to be the fastest way to his heart. He also seems to like the humans of the dogs he likes. If the dog is okay, Dennis figures their human was be pretty cool too.
Dennis has also proved to be a model houseguest. His current foster dad describes him as a patient, caring and laidback presence in the home. He knows to go outside when nature calls and will only chew on his toys and bones. He doesn't bark, never gets into anything he shouldn't and does great left home alone, happy to snooze away on the couch or making a nest out of blankets on his doggie bed.
Dennis loves being the teacher's pet, especially if treats are involved, and he's thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP) where he's learning skills like walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers, calmly walking past another dog, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means Dennis will go to a specific place in your home on command.
As a part of APA's Total Obedience Program, you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Dennis after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193
Dennis can be dog selective, but he enjoys his doggie friends and could go home with a well-matched doggie sibling, for example a female or submissive dog. And he'd absolutely adore a home with a yard. In return Dennis will make the most faithful, fun-loving and low maintenance companion you could hope for. Come meet him!
