Rocco is the complete package - beautiful, intelligent, goofy, playful and an absolute sweetheart. His gorgeous eyes, spotted ears and little white paws make him quite the head-turner. He loves getting butt scritches and giving sweet kisses in trade and will adorably nuzzle his head under your hand to let you know it's time for pets. As much as he enjoys getting out for some exercise, he's also a first-rate couch potato and is always down for a snuggle with his friends.

This playful guy has a lot of favorite toys that he takes turns with and adorably pounces on like a puppy, but if Rocco has a favorite game, it's probably fetch. And while bringing the ball back is not his strong suit, he'll happily chase the ball for as long as you're willing to throw it! He likes splashing around in the kiddie pool and is an expert at sniffing out and rolling around in best patches of grass. He also enjoys mixing it up with his doggie pals in playgroup and could go home with a well-matched doggie sibling who likes to play as much as he does. But above all, Rocco loves his people and always wants to be near them and making them proud!

Rocco can be shy at first, but once he's warmed up to someone, he becomes extremely affectionate. When he gets the opportunity to go on sleepovers with volunteers, he transforms into a magnificent house guest. He's fully house and crate-trained and is a very respectful snugglebug who listens really well and won't mess with anything that isn't his. This smart pup already knows sit, lay down, stay and shake, and he's currently thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.

As a TOP dog, Rocco has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn skills like walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place," which means he will go to a specific spot in your home on command. And as part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Rocco after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

Rocco would love a lower traffic home with a yard and with adult humans who will give him plenty of attention. In return, Rocco promises to be a well-behaved and incredibly sweet companion. One look at Rocco's gorgeous eyes and that goofy smile, and you're sure to fall in love. Come meet him!

APA!’s Barn Cat Program Provides You With Your Favorite Whiskered Workers

Some cats prefer mice-hunting to bird-watching, and some prefer laying in grass to sitting on laps. Here at APA!, we believe that barn cats still deserve a chance to live happy and healthy.
