"I'm starving over here! I just ate? Who told you that?!"

Because of his size and beautiful sleek shiny coat, Pippen gets a lot of looks and attention when out and about. He's a show stopper for sure, and he has a big personality to go with it, so he's looking for someone to harness all that impressive energy and strength and help him bloom to his full potential. Whoever makes this commitment to Pippen is going to be very happy - when he sees his favorite people, he jumps around and makes noises that will make you feel so special and loved!

Pippen is a great bed partner! He sleeps through the night and is a delight to cuddle with. He's just a big baby and really wants to be with his people as much as possible. He will lean in or climb all over you at first, but after awhile, when he's feeling a little more settled, he's just wonderful! He doesn't overdo the kissing but definitely will if you ask him to. Pippen also loves to play tug-o-war, or chase a ball or frisbee, and after a few tosses or tugs, he gets really excited. He's like a big baby without social skills, playing with his humans the way puppies play in a litter. Once that energy is trained and contained, he should make a near-perfect companion.

Pippen is fully house-trained, he sits when asked and goes all the way down with the "down" command. He's VERY treat-motivated so it's no surprise that he's thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Pippen has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn skills like walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means he will go to a specific place in your home on command. As part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Pippen after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

Pippen also enjoys going to playgroup with his canine pals at the shelter and could go home with a well-matched doggie sibling who likes to play as much as he does. Pippen would love a home with space to roam and someone who will continue his training and give him plenty of exercise. If that sounds like yours, come meet this great pup!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

This pup is currently located at our Town Lake Animal Center (1156 W. Cesar Chavez, but use 1200 Reserve Road for mapping purposes). We'd love to show them off to you! To learn more about them, head in any day between 11:30AM-6:00PM. We are open 7 days a week! Go to Building B and ask to speak with a Matchmaker about fostering this pup. You will sit down and discuss all we know about them and, if it's a good fit, get to meet them then! Please budget for a wait time unless you arrive right at opening as we cannot dictate walk-in traffic (wait times tend to be highest in the evenings and on weekends). If this pup ends up not being the best fit, we have so many other pups in need that we can suggest for your household on the spot!

Come meet your new best friend
