Like a lot of us, this sweet, fuzzy-bear of a dog finds the world to be a little bit too much at times. If you know anyone who has sensory processing issues, you might be able to relate to Fulton. He is sensitive to noises and can be overwhelmed by new environments, but can thrive in a stable home and really blossoms once he learns to trust people. He enjoys the company of other calm animals and has lived with dogs and cats. He has shown us how he bonds very closely to his friends, and is a silly, playful, and affectionate pup. Fulton seems to have excellent manners in the home - he's very good about not getting up on furniture without being invited, doesn't get into things he shouldn't and isn't destructive, and sleeps quietly through the night in his crate. He will entertain you with his adorable antics like prancing around the yard like a pony, then bouncing over and sitting in front of you with the biggest smile on his face.

He's the perfect pooch for someone who has a fenced yard and isn't into long walks around the 'hood. He feels safest in the house and prefers his potty breaks and play time to be in the backyard with you close by. He loves toys and is perfectly content to amuse himself when you're doing other things but likes hanging on the sofa watching Netflix if you want some company. If you would love to have a smile, a friendly nudge and some goofy company when you get home, Fulton is your guy. Because of his sensory issues, he is prone to the occasional meltdown (give us a holler about him and we can show you what that looks like) when new things become too much but in the right home, he'll not only be happy and content but you'll be delighted to have such a goofy, loyal, trusting companion.

Fulton is also thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Fulton has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be! Fulton is learning skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "Place", which means he will go to a specific place in your home on command.

Once Fulton successfully completes all the skills on his training plan, he will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Fulton is working hard to become a wonderful companion, and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Fulton after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193. Fulton has already picked up a lot of basic obedience and is even working on some advanced training to help him learn to deal with situations he finds stressful.

Fulton is a gentle soul who is ready to find a loving home. Come meet this special pup!

APA!’s Barn Cat Program Provides You With Your Favorite Whiskered Workers

Some cats prefer mice-hunting to bird-watching, and some prefer laying in grass to sitting on laps. Here at APA!, we believe that barn cats still deserve a chance to live happy and healthy.
