Nokie might seem shy at first, but don't her fool you! Nokie warms up quickly and become very attached to her person. Her favorite place? Under the blankets with you! She's the sweetest cuddle bug, always looking for a tummy rub and will reciprocate with "purrs and kisses! And if you lay down somewhere, she'll run over and plop down next to you for a nice spooning session. Seriously, you may want to quit your job so you can stay at home cuddling her all day.

The best of both worlds, Nokie is down for whatever you are and is just as happy to chill on the couch as she is to get some playtime in. She's calm in the home but easily coaxed into playtime, and once she gets going, she'll do adorable zoomies and throw play bows at you. She enjoys playing tug of war and fetch and likes to put her paws in the water and splash around a bit. She also loves going for car rides and sticking her whole head out of the window.

Nokie has lived in a home previously, and it shows. Have you ever taken a dog outside, just to wait 30 minutes for them to go? Not with Nokie. She understands that "outside" means it's time to do her business quickly. She knows her basic commands and even shakes with both paws. She's also thriving in the APA!'s Total Obedience Program, which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Nokie has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help her learn skills like walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means she will go to a specific spot in your home on command. And as part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Nokie after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

Funny, calm, patient, playful and so very affectionate, Nokie is going to make some lucky person very happy. Come meet her!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

This pup is currently located at our Town Lake Animal Center (1156 W. Cesar Chavez, but use 1200 Reserve Road for mapping purposes). We'd love to show them off to you! To learn more about them, head in any day between 11:30AM-6:00PM. We are open 7 days a week! Go to Building B and ask to speak with a Matchmaker about fostering this pup. You will sit down and discuss all we know about them and, if it's a good fit, get to meet them then! Please budget for a wait time unless you arrive right at opening as we cannot dictate walk-in traffic (wait times tend to be highest in the evenings and on weekends). If this pup ends up not being the best fit, we have so many other pups in need that we can suggest for your household on the spot!
