El Jefe is a beautiful young pup with super soft fur, a big baby who likes snuggling his person, leaning into them for pets and giving kisses. He'll even adorably put his paw in their lap to let them know he wants affection. While El Jefe is a big fan of cuddling and napping, he's also pretty outdoorsy and enjoys getting out for his walks, playing fetch and swimming. He loves having a yard to sniff and explore, run a few zoomies in and then do some sunbathing.

El Jefe is very well-behaved and has perfect manners in the home - he's house and crate-trained and also does well left home alone outside of one. He loves getting up on couch and bed with his person and usually waits to be invited. He also enjoys going to playgroup with his canine pals at the shelter and could go home with a well-matched doggie sibling.

El Jefe is also thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program, so much so that he recently became TOP Dog Ready, which means he has already learned all the skills in his training plan. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP Dog, El Jefe has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be!

Dogs in the program learn skills including sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers, calmly walking past another dog, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means El Jefe will go to a specific place in your home on command.

El Jefe has worked hard to become a wonderful companion, and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with him after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

This handsome guy doesn't ask for much, just a quiet home with a yard and people to call his own. In return, El Jefe promises to be a low maintenance companion and be the best boy he can be. Come meet him!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

We are currently closed to the public and are only open by appointment (foster or adopter), but we are still diligently working to place dogs in foster homes! You can inquire about fostering a specific dog by submitting an inquiry through the dog's individual profile on this website or by emailing [email protected] to get more information about how to be matched with a foster dog.

Please do not visit our shelters without talking with us first. To prevent community spread, we cannot have large crowds gathering in our shelters.
