When Manning sits at your feet and looks at you with those stunning blue eyes, you can't help but be mesmerized. When he gives you his paw, he's letting you know that it's okay, he knows he's beautiful and you can be friends now.

Energetic, smart and extremely playful, Manning loves rope toys and anything that bounces (the bigger the ball the better). He'll fetch but he would really prefer that you to chase him around the yard. You'll always know when it's playtime when Manning's around because you'll catch those intense blue eyes staring intently at you while he wiggles with excitement: "Come chase me, human!". Manning really hates it when play time is over will wait until you're just about to grab his leash, then he'll play bow and run circles around you hoping that you'll chase him again. Manning can be a little shy with new people, but the best way to break the ice is to break out a giant ball or a rope toy. If your taste in toys is that good, Manning figures you must be okay.

Manning enjoys going to playgroup and hanging out with his canine friends and should do well with a well-matched doggie sibling. He'd also obviously love a yard to romp in with his favorite people.

When you call his name, Manning will come right over, look up and hand you his paw. He's house-trained, knows "sit," and with his great eye contact and how focused he is on his person, he's doing great in APA!'s Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Manning has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be! He is learning more skills like down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "Place", which means he will go to a specific place in your home on command.

Once he successfully completes all the skills on his training plan, he will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Manning is working hard to become a wonderful companion, and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Manning after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

This spirited pup will make a wonderful companion to the right family. Come meet Manning and prepared to be dazzled!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

This pup is currently located at our Town Lake Animal Center (1156 W. Cesar Chavez, but use 1200 Reserve Road for mapping purposes). We'd love to show them off to you! To learn more about them, head in any day between 11:30AM-6:00PM. We are open 7 days a week! Go to Building B and ask to speak with a Matchmaker about fostering this pup. You will sit down and discuss all we know about them and, if it's a good fit, get to meet them then! Please budget for a wait time unless you arrive right at opening as we cannot dictate walk-in traffic (wait times tend to be highest in the evenings and on weekends). If this pup ends up not being the best fit, we have so many other pups in need that we can suggest for your household on the spot!

Come meet your new best friend
