King Triton has been described as 50% legs, 50% uncoordinated goof and 100% hilarious. This chocolatey long-legged goofball is super fun and so very awkward - and at 90-plus pounds he's guaranteed to induce laughter at all the graceless galloping and tumbling over! He loves squeaky toys and playing fetch but is always losing the ball, just to realize later that it's underneath him. He's classically handsome and looks oh so regal, though that isn't really the case. He also loves kiddie pools, though he's nearly too big for them - he runs into them at full speed and likes to splash around like a big goofy puppy!

King Triton enjoys going to playgroup with his canine friends at the shelter, and he could go home with a well-matched doggie sibling. He's shy with people at first, but once he becomes comfortable, he becomes very affectionate and playful with his person and likes to sit in your lap to get some nice butt scratches. His soulful eyes and amazing smile light up in the most endearing way when he sees his friends walking to his kennel. Treats are the way to his heart, and it's not long before King Triton's tail is wagging as he tries to sucker more out of you. This also means he makes a great training partner.

King Triton is already housebroken, walks well on leash with a gentle leader and is thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, he has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn skills like sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means King Triton will go to a specific place in your home on command. And as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program, you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with King Triton after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

King Triton would love a lower traffic home with someone who will help him get all that puppyish energy out, and he'd absolutely love having a yard to romp in. In return he promises to keep you entertained and adored. If you could use 90 pounds of lap dog in your life, come meet this great pup!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

This pup is currently located at our Town Lake Animal Center (1156 W. Cesar Chavez, but use 1200 Reserve Road for mapping purposes). We'd love to show them off to you! To learn more about them, head in any day between 11:30AM-6:00PM. We are open 7 days a week! Go to Building B and ask to speak with a Matchmaker about fostering this pup. You will sit down and discuss all we know about them and, if it's a good fit, get to meet them then! Please budget for a wait time unless you arrive right at opening as we cannot dictate walk-in traffic (wait times tend to be highest in the evenings and on weekends). If this pup ends up not being the best fit, we have so many other pups in need that we can suggest for your household on the spot!

Come meet your new best friend
