"Hey! It's you! Let me show you this new thing I learned! Can we walk over there? There's something I need to check out! Oh, and did you bring any treats? I really could use a snack!"

Schroeder is always excited to see his friends, but he's even more interested in what's going on at the shelter! He's a curious boy who just has to know what all the other dogs are up to. You can usually catch Schroeder running around the play yards, as he knows that if he stays in one place for too long, he might miss out on something exciting! Giving him time to run is the best way to get that classic Schroeder smile! And you'll know he's gotten his ya-yas out when that amazing tongue is practically dragging the ground, and then he'll plop down next to you to for a well-earned break.

When Schroeder's feeling cuddly, he'll wiggle up close and gaze up at you with his beautiful brown eyes to let you know that he's happy just to be with you. You might even get a kiss from this sweetie! But don't let his cute, cuddly disposition fool you - Schroeder is also quite the smarty pants, and he'll happily show off all his tricks to anyone who wants to see.

Schroeder is thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, he has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn skills like staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means he will go to a specific place in your home on command. As a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Schroeder after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

Smart, handsome, affectionate and energetic, Schroeder's a great dog with a lot of love to give. Come meet him!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

We are currently closed to the public and are only open by appointment (foster or adopter), but we are still diligently working to place dogs in foster homes! You can inquire about fostering a specific dog by submitting an inquiry through the dog's individual profile on this website or by emailing [email protected] to get more information about how to be matched with a foster dog.

Please do not visit our shelters without talking with us first. To prevent community spread, we cannot have large crowds gathering in our shelters.
