"Yeah, I'm up for adventure! Let's go!"

Mariska is a high energy pup who is always excited to go for car rides and get out exploring. She jumps SO high when you go to her kennel, but then settles down for you to leash her up, because she really wants to get out and about and have some fun. She loves playing tug of war, playing with her toys and fetching tennis balls. Mariska can be shy with new people, but once she warms up, she's super affectionate and snuggly with her friends.

Mariska is also a highly intelligent pup who wants to please her people, so it's not surprise she's thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Mariska has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help her learn skills like sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," coming when called and "place", which means she will go to a specific place in your home on command.

Once Mariska successfully completes all the skills on her training plan, she will be considered TOP Dog Ready! And as part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Mariska after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/89434193

Mariska would love a home with a yard and active people who will get her out for plenty of walks or runs. In return, she promises to be a loyal and loving companion and the best girl she can be. Come meet her!

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

This pup is currently located at our Town Lake Animal Center (1156 W. Cesar Chavez, but use 1200 Reserve Road for mapping purposes). We'd love to show them off to you! To learn more about them, head in any day between 11:30AM-6:00PM. We are open 7 days a week! Go to Building B and ask to speak with a Matchmaker about fostering this pup. You will sit down and discuss all we know about them and, if it's a good fit, get to meet them then! Please budget for a wait time unless you arrive right at opening as we cannot dictate walk-in traffic (wait times tend to be highest in the evenings and on weekends). If this pup ends up not being the best fit, we have so many other pups in need that we can suggest for your household on the spot!

Come meet your new best friend
