Joel is a potential-laden pooch who is currently living in an APA foster home. He's got a great temperament and is just the right age to settle into your home for the long haul!
Joel is an incredibly friendly dog. He loves all people and is not afraid of new folks at all. He does not jump on new people, does not growl or snap, and does not cower. He loves a scratch or pat on the head, no matter who it is from! And he'll take treats from your hand without biting. He is calm and sweet with everyone he meets.
On walks, he'll show you his excellent leash skills! He does not pull or run at all. Joel is very inquisitive when he is out seeing the world, but he stays very composed. He never barks at other dogs, children, or squirrels! He will also entertain himself with his cow hooves, Nylabone, and tennis ball toys. He also has an affinity for shoes (which he just picks up and carries places, oddly, he doesn't seem to chew them!) and cardboard boxes. When he plays tug or ball, he will play gently, without biting or snapping.
We love Joel's moderate activity level and calm, relaxed attitude. When he is home, he is good at lounging with a bone or toy for most of the day. He'll burn some energy playing outside, and does enjoy a walk although he doesn't seem to need to stay on the go all day. He often will just lie quietly beside his favorite people while they go about their business at home. He is also quite content to look out the window at the birds and people walking by!
Joel is quickly learning all the skills he'll need to be a great companion for your family. He is working on crate training. He is also quickly learning basic commands. He can spend hours in the house without getting into things, chewing, or having accidents.
We could picture Joel in a variety of home environments. He could likely share a home with another dog, but would probably be perfectly happy as the only pet. He would love to be in a home with people who like to take him on 2-3 walks a day so he can explore, and who would be able to engage with him at play time. Joel would also like a family who would like give him belly rubs and head scratches, and snuggle with him. He has all the makings of a great family dog! And don't forget, when you adopt from APA you'll also be helping the next dog who can join us!
